Hi folks...before you know it's Wednesday again....I swear they come around faster and faster...can you believe we are almost at the end of April already and it's that day of the week where we all rush over to Julia's place aka
WOYWW to share our crafty spaces...so here goes...I'm throwing open the door on one messy cubbyhole and holding my hands up to a tip of a workdesk...
Yes I'm back in painty/inky mode again finishing off my project for
The Altered Art Night at
The Papeterie on 3rd May
but you ain't seen nothing yet...cast your eyes over yesterday's workdesk...magazines everywhere after one of my "brilliant at the time" or so I thought brainwaves...
having subscribed to "Simply Cards & Papercraft" and "Craft Stamper" from Issues 1...I now have my very own magazine mountain and in a true " crafty itch" moment I decided it was time for a clear out but with 3 workshops to plan and prep for May...have I gone mad...obviously but it's not until you start you realise what a mammoth task it's going to be and then it's all too late.
I've got as far as whittling them down to more manageable proportions...
but there is still the "not so little" problem of the "surplus to requirements" pile currently taking up space on the floor...do you think there's any chance of the crafty fairy popping along with her magic wand and a bit of abracadbra....no me neither...
But it's time for our morning stroll and while The Furry Boy is busy with his "sniff every blade of grass thing" I'll be pondering the error of my ways...giving myself a good talking to but I fear I may be wasting my time...I'm a bit of a lost cause when it comes to having brilliant ideas which have a tendency to jump up and bite me on the bum.

ReplyDeleteJust keep crafting and keep the mags on one side until you decide what to do with them - are you sure there are no articles inside that you might want?

I had a new carpet in my studio not long since, you can image the horror i had to go through emptying the room and getting rid of stuff. So I am with you all the way on the mags.

You have to whittle the mags down from time to time but dont put them in the rubbish or re-cycle give them to a charity shop or op shop they will be so pleased to receive them.

You aren't alone Kath..my brilliant ideas always cause me many times the amount of work I envisaged...the one thing about a good clear out is that I need it to be DONE I do not like stepping over piles of stuff that are waiting for more action. You've already been to my place, so you know that your desk isn't untidy really..although I had to look twice to check that the paint was on a mat!!

Now - once it came to choosing between buying a magazine OR an inkpad - that was the final straw & the mags were evicted! Now that bubble wrap looks VERY interesting.

ReplyDeletestick them on a free cycle site... there is sure to be one on line that is near you... you just state must be collected... the idea is people put stuff on that is no good to them any more.. but you can only claim goods if you have given goods away before... so people can not just take and take stuff... (if you know what i mean)... or charity shop them... my mam is in the middle of saying she is going to sort hers... lol... good luck with gettin rid...

Don't forget to take out all the best bits, but that means you might have to flick though each one. Coffee needed for that job.
I usually take them to my craft meeting and they get snapped up straight away.

Haha I had to smile when I read your post Kath as your pile of magazines looks a bit like mine! I have boxes of them everywhere but I am just not brave enough to cut them up, give them away or throw them out!!

I too had a magazine mountain, until I donated them to my local charity shop. They were delighted with them and apparently the whole mountain sold within a few days.

Oh Kath - yes I know the feeling well.. I have a stack of Cross Stitchng mags from about 20 years ago which I hate to throw out - surely there must be someone who could make use of them!! alas I think it will be 'in the bin' more likely.

Another magazine mountain here - this one is of epic proportions! Hubby has told me he'll need to reinforce the upstairs floors if I keep anymore!

Hi Kath, like you had a mountain of mags. I have kept all my craft stamper mags. But got rid of all the rest to the charity shop. I must say I felt so much better when they had gone. Don't buy any now only craft stamper. Would rather get a new stamp or inkpad.

Super crafty desk, with splodges too! I'm prone to mass clear outs of magazines too, I donate them to friends for their children to look through and then harass mum into making projects! Am using my WOYWW snooping as an excuse to munch my way through a bag of mini eggs! Take care Zo xx 77

Although I don't have anything like as many, I started sifting through my pile recently, removed any item I thought I might just have use for and chucked the rest and it is a job that takes longer than anticipated. You could donate them to your local hospital ... a recent stint in the waiting room of ours was made all the worse because of the mind-blowingly dire reading matter available, a few craft magazines would have helped the occupy my mind :) I like that big stamp on your desk and it looks as though your making something really interesting. I didn't know as I do it all the time. I'm impressed with your mountain of magazines. I have quite a pile myself. I do find them useful for inspiration so I'm glad to see that you didn't trash them all. You are right that a mountain of them are too many though. We have a fabulous used bookstore here in town that takes in books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, computer games, and interesting knick knacks. They always take my stamp magazines in for trade. The hubby and I read a lot so that's a gonga deal. Sometimes I've passed them off to other crafty ladies. So maybe you can find a craft group to unload your pile on? Not quite as good as a craft fairy waving her wand, but close.
I am a self confessed magazine aholic. Is there such a thing? Well, ifthere was, thatwould beme. So I know exactly whatyou mean with a mountain of magazines. If you get good advice on how to get rid of them without throwing thwm away, please let me know.

ReplyDeleteIt's certainly not a tip of a work desk, just a creative space. As for the magazines, I buy far too many. At one time I used to keep loads and loads and a few years ago did sell on ebay, but it's just not worth all the hassle and the postage is so high that people don't want to buy. I now keep the piles down (but still buy more mags than I really should) - (Hazel, #173) x

Giving away your magazines is like sending beautiful paper on a card to someone,knowing that they will probably just bin it in a couple of weeks. That's why my shelves are full up with lovely paper and card. Is that elastic bands round your acrlilic block to use as a stamp Kath? What a good idea if it is, I must try that. Hope it's not a trade secret. This weather is awful!

This will probably make a lot of people shake their heads in wonder.. but I go through the magazines tear out what I want to keep, put in a folder then when I use that idea I throw it away or give that to a fellow crafter if I think she would like it. I give the magazine with missing pages to my friends to do the same or whatever. That is my solutions for mountains of mags. or having to find more storage space LOL Have a great WOYWW!
ReplyDeleteI'm just getting around. I feel your pain w/ the mags. I had such a hoard and decided to go through each and cut out the inspirations and put them in a "Binder of Inspirations." It's been great over the years and no mag buildup! Mostly now I just go online for ideas. Best of luck! Darnell (184)

I stick sticky notes in some of them so I know where to look if there's some thing I might what to look up, shame they don't come with a separate index!! Thanks for my snoop! ReplyDeleteI had boxes and boxes of magazines that I just didn't know what to do with. I now have a system that I purchase esubscriptions and if they come in paper too I look through them and if there aren't 3 items I think I will use I take it and donate it at my local craft store.
