Sun...Sea...Sand

Hi folks...isn't the weather just absolutely glorious...far too scorching to stay cooped up in the cubbyhole so Brodie Oliver and Grandma set off yesterday for a day at the beach in the picturesque town of Stonehaven...
if you head for the coast in my neck of the woods...you can almost always guarantee a cooling breeze or a howling gale depending on the season but yesterday Stonehaven was SIZZLING and the outdoor heated pool was already busy at 10 o'clock...
As the name suggests Stonehaven has a stony pebbly beach so we headed for the little bit of soft golden sand at the harbour...
for a paddle and a yummy picnic lunch...
 provided courtesy of M&S...
and for pud...a delicious ice cream cone which was melting faster than we could lick it...
And at the end of a fun day...it's that moment when you sit back in the car and feel as though you've stepped into an oven...if not for Air Con I would have been throwing caution to the wind and driving home in my underwear.
Enjoy your weekend everyone...have fun in the sun but please be sensible...unlike the masses of folks walking around Stonehaven looking like boiled lobsters.
Hugs Kath xxx

  1. Lovely photos Kath.

We have plenty of boiled 'lobsters' down here in London but it is what they are wearing that I find strange. We have temps in the late 20/early 30 region and there are young girls walking around in Ugg boots, thick black tights, denim shorts and a either a vest-top, boob-tube or a bra (I kid you not - they are most definitely bras, not bikini tops).
Yesterday started with fabulous weather but around 2pm the storms hit.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  2. Morning Kath, looks like you all had a fantastic day, thanks for sharing your photo's.
I've been on a special diet for my cancer so there's been no ice creams for me. I've lost over 3 stone.
Enjoy your weekend love and hugs xx ChrisB

  3. Hi Kath, Aberdeenshire is a beautiful place, some of the beaches are really nice with gorgeous sand. I've never made it down o the heated pool in Stonehaven yet, it's great that they managed to keep it open. You must have had a wonderful day with the boys, I bet hey were fair chuffed to be away on the ran dan with you and went home really tired. Kids love picnics. The mists in on the coast today again but I'm sitting in glorious sunshine, bring it on but as you say do be careful. Enjoy your sunny weekend whatever your doing Kath...Trish

  6. Kate you seemed to have enjoyed your day as much as the boys will have, M&S panic - aren't they great. It's years since I have been to Stonehaven, but I am told that the pool and the sandy beach at the harbour are great. Had to laugh at the bit about if you didn't have air con thou would have travelled back. In your underwear - you would have been on trend as they say by the sounds of things. Hazel x

  8. How wonderful to be beside the sea! We saw our Grandies too yesterday but it was in town, in the heat of 28 degrees - just a tad too hot for all of us! Your day looked idyllic though. Hugs, Anne xx

  9. It's probably the thing I miss most about not living in Aberdeen anymore... No access to the sea! I used to spend pretty much all my free time at the seaside, no matter the weather. (I remember the massive storm we had in the summer of 97. The sea went completely nuts, and it was so beautiful... From a safe distance!)
Glad you had such a great time at Stonehaven, those ice creams look scrummy! x

  10. That picnic looked yummy - all my kind of food, except the salad!
Looked like an idyllic day out and I'm sure the boys enjoyed their time spent with you.

  11. Good to hear that you're relaxing and enjoying the grandsons' company. It's been too hot here for me to venture far outside during the day-I'm useless in the heat. The dog and I have escaped to the cool woods for our morning walks but that's been it until evening! Cool crafty room's bliss for me!
    Take care, Jan

  12. I've only ever been to Stonehaven twice - sadly it was cold and gloomy both times (one time it was February to be fair!!) - it looks fab in the sunshine!

  13. Sounds like you had a lovely time with the boys, Kath. Catriona took Poppy and Oliver and her young dog to Collieston one afternoon and Cruden Bay the next two last week. Unfortunately Gran wasn't with them. Maybe next time they're staying with us. We're quite lucky as both of these beaches are about 10 minutes away and no problems with parking.
