Everything that's wrong with today's society...greed/materialism/overspending/gotta have it whether you can afford it or not and total disrespect for fellow human beings and I ain't too happy with the weather either...is it ever going to stop raining.

Even here in the US, not all of us (me) take part in Black Friday madness. I just can't bring myself to partake in the maniacal behavior of crazy people looking for crazy bargains. Hadn't heard of Scenticles before, but it sounds like a great idea. Nice of the company to give you some to share.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to have the scent of a real tree at Christmas. We gave up on having a real tree a quite a few years ago - I was fed up with still finding pine needles in the carpet in August! I miss the Christmassy smell though.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you about Black Friday! I'd planned to go Christmas shopping today, until I remembered it was Black Friday, so I stayed at home and made some more Christmas cards instead. Watching the news tonight, I'd made the right decision! xx

Those Scentsicles sound wonderful, so thank you for the opportunity to win some. We gave up on having real trees many years ago because of the dreadful summer heat here in Australia (often 40oC+!!!). Real trees just 'cook'.
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of the Black Friday thing before this year, except if a Friday and the 13th of the month coincided, then people go mad buying lottery tickets!! It sounds like Boxing Day sales, which like Julie, I also avoid!

Did you see some of the frenzied scenes on the TV? Mind you I think they were deliberately provoking it in the shops, with the packs of reporters zooming in on people, one of the shops they showed even had cheerleaders egging the crowds on! I reckon we in the crafting community ought to declare today Sparkly Saturday!

Those scentsicles sound brilliant - I'm always trying various candles to get a proper tree scent, but obviously you have to wait for them to get burning when you've been out - this is the solution. The whole Black Friday thing in the UK is a nightmare - just as with Halloween we take an American tradition and it morphs into something greed-driven. Can we not remain the UK, instead of a US clone?

ReplyDeleteI totally agree about Black Friday. It was awful out there. I had to go and collect something from M&S, and also buy my mum a birthday present to give her at the weekend. I won't forget the date next year, and will avoid the shops! Have great weekend.

Kath, you have summed up just how I feel about this Black Friday thing and what the world is coming too!!! watching the TV last night and seeing what folk were buying I justbthought - credit cards maxed out, this months wages gone, next week they will be saying they need to use the food bank as they have no money. Not all but a good few, where has the days gone when if you didn't have the money you went without. Sorry on soap box, it just makes me mad. I like the sound of these " Sentsicles" but husband gets terrible headaches with these sort of things. Hazel x

ReplyDeleteEmails...they have been arriving for the last 2 weeks and there were more this morning. There is nothing that I need that desperately that I would even consider taking part in such madness - the scenes on the news were awful. I spent a lovely day with friends over at the Craft Village spending some of my birthday money and was lucky to be travelling in the opposite direction to the jams caused by traffic returning from some of the large retail areas near us.
The weather can't seem to make up its mind down here - chilly over night, foggy mornings, lots of rain but actually not that chilly during the daytime...ho hum - normal British winter I suppose.

The whole black friday thing is ridiculous. I for one decided to go the other way, and participated in the "Flood the streets with art" event, where folks from all over the world abandoned some of their creations for free for someone to find and take home. Much more exciting than spending hours in queues to buy stuff I don't need anyhow! lol.

Hi Kath, horrible day again, roll on springtime! Loved your New York photos, never managed to get there but love to see the buildings. Haven't looked at the sales, at an age now when you know it's not a bargain unless you really need it and my shelves are full of unused bargains. Yesterday I spent my pennies filling a trolley with food for the folks with no money to fill their bellies never mind shelves. Hi Kath. I'm 100% against Black Friday. It's another American 'tradition' that we don't need. I was disgusted at the scenes of chaos on the news and I'm surprised there were no serious injuries. Down here in Cornwall we're more laid back and I don't think it was quite as bad as up country but one bus company cancelled all their services to one of the ASDA stores as there was chaos in the carpark so they couldn't get in lol. One of my neighbours has had her decorations up for over two weeks now, which is way too early imho, my tree is still in the roof lol.

I hear ya! I have absolutely nothing against the USA - I lived in California for several years, my boys were born out there and one of them lives in San Jose right now but....I never did the Trick or Treat thing and am, like you, ashamed when I see the near-riots on the news for Black Friday! Oh well, we do get some good things coming this way too, I guess :)

ReplyDeleteOn the subject of Black Friday I was amazed to hear them advertising "vendredi noire" deals on French radio yesterday....never come across it in France before and they are still holding out against Sunday opening so it was quite a shock!!!

ReplyDeleteI don't think I have ever participated in "Black Friday" here in the USA. The whole idea seems so silly to me, plus I find myself doing more and more shopping on the world wide web. The Scentsicles sound like a great idea. I don't believe I have seen them, but would sure enjoy a house filled with those wonderful scents. Give Buddy a scratch behind his ears for me.
