Usually a piece of cake...hop online...tick a few boxes and Bob's your uncle...on this occasion a bit of a nightmare. The old computer was having none of it...freezing...crashing and playing silly beggars and just when I thought I was home and dry with the first flight...Mr Flybe turned up his nose at my credit card...3 attempts at entering that great long number which I now know off by heart and all the other security details before I got confirmation my bum had been allocated a seat.
And silly me for thinking it was a one off computer blip...major catastrophe when I logged in again to book the flight to Hobbycraft...up popped Mr Dell Diagnostics with a critical warning...in not so many words...it seems the old computer is on it's last legs and I fear he needs replacing...crikey please don't die right now was going through my head. So I switched off...switched on again with everything crossed...softly softly catchey monkey...whispering words of encouragement instead of my usual "oh for goodness sake...get on with it" atitude...breathing a huge sigh of relief that I won't be walking to Birmingham after all.
I don't have time to go and shop for a new computer right now so it looks like I'll be lavishing the old boy with lots of TLC and crossing my fingers that I can keep him going into 2014.
And there's more grumpy news...what popped through the letterbox last week might well put the scuppers on January's planned samples and workshop projects...a Jury Citation for the High Court...a real spanner in the works...who knows how long I'll be there sitting twiddling my crafty thumbs doing nothing but listening to the evidence and the High Court bit tells me I could be in for the long haul...it's definitely not going to be "a 5 minute...you've stolen a sandwich from Tesco" session that's for sure...here's hoping the powers that be take one look at this crazy old biddy and decide I'm not jury material.

ReplyDeleteHope you get your puter sorted. It's a total nightmare when they go on the blink. Fingers crossed it behaves until you're ready to give it the boot ( or should that be the re-boot hahaaaa)
ReplyDeleteRe jury service, well if it's any consolation you will actually probably love it. I did when I went, and I got on a case. Richard didn't get a case when he went but he wasn't too bothered. They usually tell you if the case is expected to go on for weeks and if you have plans then you can be excused from that case although not your service. At least I think that's how it works. Tell them that there's lots if crafty ids who will be up in arms if they keep you there too long :)))) You're generally finished by 3pm or thereabouts as well if I remember rightly. So don't worry Mrs, it may not be as bad as you think. Sending loads of love and hugs xxxxx

ReplyDeleteHi Kath, with any luck when you phone the night before your number won't be chosen for jury service. I'm sure I'd fall asleep if I had to sit for hours listening to drivel, you know the first five minutes if they're guilty or not. You'll get a free lunch, well not free, our taxes pay for it likely. I can sympathise with the computer worries, our landline hasn't been working for a week, so a couple of calls to India was needed. Why is the hold music so loud yet the person has such a quiet voice that you put the phone down and try to think back what was really said? We got a new router (kids thought we needed that)now the printer will not connect, wish I hadn't listened to them now, the old one was fine. I'm sure all these things are just put here to try us and keep the old brains ticking over. Hope your day was good...Trish
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the jury duty evasion techniques! I tried them all to no avail and spent two wasted days of my life the first time round and didn't get called, and the same again the second time around and did get called, only for the case to fold at the last minute! Dis get a free lunch though, but ate so much we all felt drowsy in the afternoon.
