and the theme for this week is...
VINTAGE/ PAST TIMES
VINTAGE/ PAST TIMES
I decided to create a Vintage Shabby Chic canvas using Tim Holtz/Sizzix Large Stem and Tattered Butterfly BigZ dies and couldn't resist using the new Distress Oxide Sprays to colour the background.
So let's get started. I trimmed a Dina Wakley Media Board to measure 6" x 9", tapped White Gesso on to one of the images from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Scrollwork using a mini round blending tool and foam and stamped randomly around the edges. Because it's white on white, obviously you can't see anything yet but the paint will act as a resist and the stamping will show when colour is added. It's important to wash the stamp thoroughly to remove the paint before it dries and with such a fine detailed stamp, I used a toothbrush to remove the paint from the crevices.
I spritzed the canvas with Bundled Sage Distress Spray and then Cracked Pistachio andVintage Photo Distress Oxide Sprays, spritzed with water to spread the spray around and dried. I repeated the process until I was happy with the colours and I love the chalky oxidised look the Distress Oxide Sprays have once they are dry. I wiped over the stamped areas with a slightly damp cloth to reveal the beautiful detail of the scrollwork image.
I sanded the background to reveal the canvas texture of the Media Board and wiped off the dust with a soft brush.
I inked the background stamp from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Entomology with Ground Espresso Distress Archival ink and stamped randomly over the panel.
I die cut 2 flowers from Distress Mixed Media Heavystock using Tim Holtz/Sizzix Large Stem Bigz die and applied Ranger Opague Crackle Paste to the flowers and an Idea-ology Baseboard.
Once they were dry and the crackles had appeared, I applied a coat of Distress Collage Vintage Medium Matte
and coloured the stems and Idea-ology Baseboard with Vintage Photo Distress Crayon
I added Idea-ology Thrift Shop Ephemera to the baseboard, darkened the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Crayon and applied White Gesso to the flowers to create the look of dried, shrivelled up flowers that have lost their colour.
I used the Tim Holtz/Sizzix Tattered Butterfly BigZ die to die cut the butterflies from Distress Mixed Media Heavystock, coloured with Spiced Marmalade and Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Sprays, stamped with the Entomology Background and sanded the edges to reveal the lighter core of the card.
I fixed a piece of Idea-logy Lace Trimmings at the side of the Baseboard panel using Distress Collage Medium Matte and added twine around the edges and behind where the butterfly would be. I find the easiest way to do this is, coat your fingers with Distress Collage Medium Matte and then run them along the length of twine, place the twine down and apply pressure for a few moments. Distress Collage Medium Matte dries quickly so you may have to reapply as you work your way round.I threaded buttons from my stash with twine and coloured the buttons, an Idea-ology Pen Nib and Quote Chip with Mushroom and Tranquil Pearl Alcohol inks.
I scribbled Walnut Stain Distress Crayon on the edges of the panel, rubbing it into the texture with a damp finger and finished by flicking on splatters of White Gesso.
