Simon Says - Oodles of Doodles

Hi Everyone...welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. Thank you for joining us for last week's challenge and we hope you can join us this week too because

and the theme for this week is...
OODLES OF DOODLES
I created an Art Journal page using Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Doodle Layering Stencil to decorate the background and featuring the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Snarky Cats Halloween who have enrolled for a lesson at the Sketched Manor Flying School but it doesn't seem to be going too well.

I began by trimming Distress Mixed Media HeavyStock to measure 6" x 8" and spritzed Carved Pumpkin Distress Oxide Spray through Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Doodle Layering Stencil.
I flipped the stencil over, sprayed with Black Soot Spray Stain, wiped the stain from the edges, placed on to the panel and used kitchen towel to press the ink into the card and also to soak up any excess.
I stamped the moon and manor house from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Sketched Manor on to the panel inked with Black Soot Distress Archival and inked around the edge of the panel with Black Soot Distress Ink using a mini round blending tool.
I stamped the word "flight" using Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Word Text, an old favourite, inked with Black Soot Distress Archival ink/
I stamped the Halloween Snarky Cats, broomstick and witches hat on to scraps of Distress Mixed Media HeavyStock with Black Soot Distress Archival ink, coloured with Distress ink Re-inkers using a Distress Detailer Brush and fussy cut.
I stamped the images directly on to the panel using Black Soot Distress Archival ink and placed the fussy cut images on top
I wasn't happy with the moon, so re-stamped on to a scrap of Distress Mixed Media, HeavyStock, coloured using Carved Pumpkin and Hickory Smoke Distress Ink Re-inkers and fussy cut. I added splatters of White Gesso, matted the panel on to Idea-ology BlackOut KraftStock and fixed to a page in my Dina Wakley Blue Edition Media Journal using Distress Collage Medium Matte. I added Idea-ology Small Talk Snarky Stickers and Halloween Trim Tape, outlined the stickers with a Kelly Creates Black Fine Liner pen, and added highlights to "flight" using a Sakura White Gelly Roll Pen.

I finished by adding Ranger Glossy Accents to the cat eyes.

Happy Halloween

Hi my friends, who knew that 2020 would be a year that none of us will forget in a hurry, certainly not me, when I stocked up in January with ready made cards, envelopes and gift bags for 12 months of  mass production makes to continue the fundraising for Brodie's Machu Picchu Challenge.
But with no craft or school fairs on the horizon, those plans are on hold for the foreseeable future, so I'm putting my cup half full/ever the optimist/best foot forward on my own personal 2020 challenge and my mission to make a dent in the stockpile, starting off with some Halloween treat bags for the kids in the street who probably won't be out trick or treating this year.

I trimmed Distress Watercolor card to be slightly smaller than the front of the gift bag and die-cut a circle from masking paper. I spritzed Hickory Smoke, Stormy Sky and Speckled Egg Distress Oxide Sprays on to the craft mat on my Glass Media Mat, placed the card on to the ink, dried and tapped the card into the ink to pick up the remaining droplets. I removed the mask, spritzed around the moon with water and let the ink run to create a more moody moon.
I die-cut the Tim Holtz/Sizzix Haunted House from Distress Watercolor card but didn't realise I was trying to die-cut through 2 layers of card and of course, the second layer didn't cut through but, as luck would have it, left behind the aperture window sections from the top layer of card.  I coloured the house with Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide ink, fixed to the background with Distress Collage Medium Matte, coloured the window pieces with Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide ink and puzzled pieced back into the spaces. I added Tim Holtz/Sizzix Adhesive Sheet to the back of Idea-ology BlackOut Kraftstock, sanded back to reveal the kraft core, die-cut the accents and added to the house. I used a Distress Detailer Brush with Black Soot Distress Oxide Spray to add splatters and shadows around the house.I die-cut the paving stones from Haunted House, the lamp post from Christmastime from the remaining Idea-ology BlackOut KraftStock, the Trick or Treater and the pumpkin from Idea-ology Classic KraftStock and Distress Watercolor card coloured with Distress Oxide inks.I die-cut the sentiment from scraps of Idea-ology BlackOut KraftStock and coloured card using Tim Holtz/Sizzix Shadow Lower Thinlits and added Idea-ology Small Talk Stickers. I die-cut the bats from Idea-ology BlackOut KraftStock using Gatekeeper Thinlits and added eyes using a Sakura White Gelly Roll Pen. I fixed the Trick or Treater and pumpkin to the panel using Sizzix Foam Adhesive to create dimension. To add a little interest to the plain bag, I used Black Soot Distress Oxide Spray to add splatters on the back and sides, fixed the panel on the front and used Idea-ology Mummy Cloth coloured with Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide Spray as a closure.

Woohoo, the wait is almost over, the brand new colour to join the Distress family will be revealed on Tim Holtz Facebook Live tonight at 6.00pm if you're in the UK. I'm so excited and a little worried, will it replace Speckled Egg in my affections. Hope to see you there.

Simon Says - Beautiful Botanicals

We are currently hosting a month long Kids Summer Vacation Challenge over on the Wednesday Challenge BlogPlease CLICK HERE for more details.

Hi Everyone...welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. Thank you for joining us for last week's challenge and we hope you can join us this week too because

and the theme for this week is...
Beautiful Botanicals
I couldn't resist using some of the "very versatile and not just for Halloween" stamps from the new Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Halloween release, Dearly Departed, Specimen and Examination with the Deco Arch Layering Stencil and Wildflower Stems 1, one of my favourite botanical Tim Holtz/Sizzix Thinlits dies to create an Art Journal Page.

I began by trimming Dina Wakley Cotton Watercolor paper to be slightly smaller than the page in my Dina Wakley Blue Media Journal, spritzed the paper generously with water, followed by Antique Linen Distress Oxide Spray to create a soft neutral background.
I inked the floral image from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Dearly Departed with Antique Linen Distress Oxide ink and stamped repeatedly to create a tone-on-tone effect.
I applied Aged Mahogany Distress Oxide ink through the Deco Arch Layering Stencil, which I suspect is going to be a much used favourite, using a mini round blending tool.
I created a collage using Tim Holtz Idea-ology Pocket Cards fixed together with Distress Collage Medium and applied a coat of Distress Collage Medium over the top.
I added shading around the cards and along the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Crayon, smudging the colour out with my finger.
I stamped the bug from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Specimen on to the panel inked with Black Soot Distress Archival ink.
I positioned the collage element over the stamped image and re-stamped the bug several times to get a nice dark image.
I fixed the collage in place with Distress Collage Medium Matte, repositioned the Deco Arch Layering Stencil over the original stencilling and continued the stencilling on to the pocket cards.  I cleaned off the stencil, flipped it over and sprayed with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Spray, spritzed with water and pressed on to the background. I patted the stencil with kitchen towel to transfer the ink and remove any excess. I repeated over the other stencilled areas to create a monoprint effect.
Going with the rule of threes, I stamped the bug wings twice more off the edge of the paper, inked the script stamp from Dearly Departed with Versamark ink, sprinkled with Ranger Superfine White Embossing Powder and heat set.
I inked the splatters image from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Examination with Peeled Paint Distress Oxide ink, stamped randomly on the background, sprinkled with Peeled Paint Distress Embossing Glaze and heat set.
I die-cut the flowers from Distress Watercolor card using Tim Holtz Sizzix Wildflowers Stems 1 Thinlits, coloured with Distress and Distress Oxide inks using a Distress Detailer Brush

I fixed the die-cuts in place with Distress Collage Medium Matte and added Eclectic Elements Thread. I inked the ticket and text images from Specimen and Dearly Departed with Black Soot Distress Archival, stamped on to the left over die-cut papers, fussy cut and added to the panel.

I added splatters of White Gesso, an Idea-ology Optical Lens and Specimen Remnant Rubs, outlined the Dearly Departed fussy cut wording and added dots to the flowers with a Kelly Creates Fine Black Liner.
I discovered that the remnant rubs do not like Cotton Watercolor paper, probably because it is very  fibrous so I rubbed a little Distress Collage Medium over the areas with my finger to seal and once dry, they worked a treat.
To finish I edged the page with Walnut Stain Distress Ink and fixed the panel in the journal using Distress Collage Medium Matte.
