Simon Says...Splash It On

Hi Everyone...welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog...thank you for joining us for last week's "Hip Hop" challenge...we hope you can join us this week too because...

and the theme for this week is...
SPLASH IT ON

I made a card with my most favourite of the Crazy Birds...it makes me smile everytime I see his cute face and his doeful "it wasn't me...honestly" expression. And no surprise that I used Distress Oxide inks to create my "Splash It On" background on Ranger Distress Watercolor Card.
overstamping with Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Birch And Pine inked with Faded Jeans to create a "rain coming down in stair rods" look...
added French Design Tape and big splashes of White Gesso...
and used Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Type Lower and Purely Random (which I won as a prize for 12 Tags of 2012) stamp sets inked with Black Archival to create the sentiment...
I used Sizzix Small Tattered Florals to die cut the branch and leaves from Sizzix Distress Core'dinations...

I stamped the Crazy Bird on to Distress Watercolor Card and coloured with Distress Oxides...Faded Jeans, Fossilized Amber and Spiced Marmalade and die cut using the matching Thinlits. I stamped the umbrella from this cute stamp set which came with a Simon Says Stamp Card Kit from way back when, coloured with Fossilized Amber and stencilled with Spiced Marmalade using a mini layering stencil from Set 21.

I added Bouquet Findings and coloured the centres with Distress Markers...one of those fiddly "could have been a brain surgeon or I should have gone to Specsavers" tasks. I applied Grit Paste through the Splatters Mini Layering Stencil and I'm sharing a handy tip from the Professor himself if you want your Grit or Texture Paste to stay white. Smear on a little Distress Micro Glaze which comes in the Paper Mosaic Kit but you can purchase it separately, place a small amount on your finger and rub it gently into the texture of the paper, then buff with a soft cloth to remove any excess. It creates a seal and prevents the paste from absorbing any colour from the ink.

You can find all the products I used over at the fabulous Simon Says Stamp online store...just click on the links below...

  11. The birds are still my favorites. The cats and dogs are great too but the birds have first place in my heart. Great tip on using the glaze to stop color absorption on the grit paste (yes I actually do read your posts). thanks as always for sharing.

  14. What a great background! I do a lot of rain-image stamping (which is crazy, really, considering I live in drought-stricken California where we have no rain...), and I'd love to reproduce that background. Did you do it using the inks as paints?
