Playtime - Take 2

Hi my friends, I'm back with the second post of the day to share another card from the playtime adventure with my Tim Holtz/Ranger Distress Watercolor Pencils palette using Simon Says Brushed Flowers stamp set and matching dies to create a no line watercolour effect.

I placed the flower and foliage stamps from Simon Says Brushed Flowers on Tim Holtz Grid Blocks, inked with Antique Linen Distress Oxide ink and stamped on to scraps of Distress Watercolor card.
I coloured the images following the lines of the stamping from my Distress Watercolor Pencils palette and die-cut using the matching dies.
I trimmed Distress Watercolor card to 4" x 5.1/4", applied a wash of Iced Spruce from the palette with a flat brush and added splatters of the same colour with a smaller brush.
I arranged the flowers and foliage on the panel fixing some down with Distress Collage Medium and others popped up on Simon Says Foam Squares to create dimension
I stamped the sentiment banner from the stamp set on to the panel, inked with Simon Says Intense Black ink. To finish I matted the panel on to Simon Says Black cardstock trimmed 1/8" larger and fixed to an A2 white card blank.

Have fun with whatever you are making

Distress Watercolor Pencils Playtime

Hi my friends, playtime continues and I'm sharing a card I made using my Tim Holtz/Ranger Distress Watercolor Pencils palette to colour the embossed detail from Simon Says Wildflower Field Embossing Folder on Distress Kraft HeavyStock.

I trimmed Distress Kraft HeavyStock to 4" x 5.1/4", misted generously with water and ran through my die-cutting machine using Simon Says Wildflower Field Embossing Folder.
I coloured the embossed detail with colours from my Distress Watercolor Pencil palette - Picket Fence on the daisies, shaded with Picked Raspberry and Mustard Seed and Spiced Marmalade on the flower centres. I used Twisted Citron for the foliage and Picked Raspberry for the berries. The pencils are so highly pigmented that I only applied one coat of colour on the foliage and berries. I did apply 2 coats of Picket Fence on the daisies but that was more to help to fade out the Picked Raspberry shading than coverage.
I added splatters of the Picket Fence from the palette and matted the panel on to an A2 white card blank. I die-cut the Script Hello shadow twice from Simon Says Vellum and the word 4 times from Distress Watercolor card, layered and fixed to the panel with Distress Collage Medium. To finish I added an  Idea-ology Sentiments Label Sticker.

I have one more playtime make to share and will be back later today, so watch this space

Season Of Joy

Hi my friends, I've been itching to have more playtime with my Tim Holtz/Ranger Distress Watercolor Pencils. The weather has turned very chilly in my neck of the woods and the boffins at the Met Office are forecasting snow soon - seriously it's still September so I decided to embrace the weather and the Christmas vibes and try out some water colouring with Season Of Joy, a favourite 2021 Christmas stamp set from Simon Says Stamp. There are amazing watercolour artists out there and I'm not one of them but hey I found the Distress Watercolor Pencils easy to use, had great fun and was very happy with the results.

Before I began this adventure I decided to create a Distress Watercolor Pencils palette and as luck would have it,  I just happened to have an empty Ranger Distress/Alcohol Ink palette. I removed the sharpener from it's holder, sharpened each pencil in to a Simon Says Triangle Tray, carefully tipped the sharpenings into the individual wells, added 3 or 4 drops of water using a glass dropper dispenser and mixed using a small brush
The wet medium will dry in the palette but can be re-activated with drops of water or a wet brush.
I trimmed Distress Watercolor card to 3" square, marked off with a ruler and pencil to create 9 squares and created swatches for the lid. I'm not going to lie, it did take a bit of time but was well worth it and a little tip, brush out your sharpener after each pencil to prevent contamination of the next colour and no prizes for guessing why I'm sharing those words of wisdom.
I stamped the large poinsettia image from Simon Says Season Of Joy on to an A2 panel of Distress Watercolor card, inked with Simon Says Intense Black and heat embossed with Simon Says Clear Embossing Powder. I began by applying a layer of water, picked up the colour from the well and dropped on to sections of the image, letting the water work it's magic. Once I had completed the first layer of colour on the flowers, I dried them and began to add more layers of colour, drying between layers. I repeated the process on the leaves and dried thoroughly. I used a large brush to apply a wash of Antique Linen to the background and the heat embossing provided a barrier preventing the colours of the image mixing with the background.
I separated the words on the stamp set with masking tape and stamped with Candied Apple on the top and Black Soot Distress Archival on the bottom. I placed the snowflake stamp from the set on a small Tim Holtz Grid Block, dipped the Antique Linen Distress Watercolor Pencil in to water, applied to the stamp and stamped repeatedly over the background.
I inked up the same stamp with Hickory Smoke Distress Archival and stamped on top of the original images.
I added splatters of Distress Resist Spray, sprinkled with Simon Says White Embossing Powder, tapped off the excess and heat set.
I inked around the edge of the panels with Hickory Smoke Distress Ink using a mini round blending tool, fixed the panel to Simon Says Fog Gray cardstock and fixed to a white card blank.
Have lots of fun if you've got your Distress Watercolor Pencils

Tim Holtz Distress Holiday 2022

Hi friends, you'll all know by now that the Tim Holtz Distress Holiday 2022 collection has been released and Tim will be sharing demos and lots of tips and tricks using the products on his YouTube Channel on 8 October at 9am PT, 12 noon ET and 5PM in the UK so make a note on your calendars. Once the all important swatching was out of the way, it was time to have some fun and I'm sharing cards I made using the Distress Mica Stains and Snowfall Grit Paste along with some favourite Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous stamps, Bold Tidings 2 and 3, Seasonal Scribble and Snowflakes Layering Stencil.

I trimmed Distress Watercolor card to create 2 - 4" x 5.1/4" panels. I stamped the sentiment stamps from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Bold Tidings 2 and 3, inked with Versamark ink and heat set with Simon Says Clear Embossing Powder. I applied Snowfall Grit Paste through Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Snowflakes Layering Stencil and set aside to dry.
I spritzed the panels with Salvaged Patina and Bundled Sage Distress Spray Stains
I spritzed the Bundled Sage panel with Cocktail Party and Fresh Balsam Distress Mica Stains, dried and spritzed with water to create the water droplet effect.
I repeated on the other panel using Shiny Bauble and Winter Frost Distress Mica Stains.
I dabbed the snowflakes with damp paper towel to remove the colour and used a dry cloth to remove the Mica Stain sitting on the embossed sentiments. I masked off the top of the embossed sentiments and stamped the images from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Seasonal Scribbles, inked with Black Soot Distress Archival ink and added highlights using a Sakura White Gelly Roll Pen.
To finish I matted the panels on to Simon Says Black cardstock and fixed to A2 white card blanks.

Have fun when your Distress Holiday 2022 goodies arrive. Hugs Kath xxx

Simon Says - Emboss It

Hi Everyone, welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. Thank you for joining us for last week's challenge and we hope you can join us this week too because

and the theme for this week is...
EMBOSS IT
The nights are drawing in, temperatures are cooling and soon the leaves on the trees will be changing colour, so I made a card to celebrate the arrival of Autumn using Tim Holtz/Sizzix Acorns 3D Texture Fade, Pumpkin Duo Thinlits and Simon Says CZ Designs Hello die.

I used Tim Holtz/Sizzix Acorns 3D Texture Fade to emboss Distress Watercolor card, coloured the detail with Carved Pumpkin, Peeled Paint and Walnut Stain Distress Oxide inks using Distress Blending Brushes and trimmed the panel to 4" x 5.1/4".
I die-cut Simon Says Hello from a background created with Carved Pumpkin Distress Oxide ink and matted on to some Glassine I found in my stash.
I fixed the sentiment panel to the card, added a bow using Idea-ology Velvet Trims Neutral, a pumpkin die-cut using Tim Holtz/Sizzix Pumpkin Duo Thinlits and added splatters of Ground Espresso Reinker diluted with water.
I added an Idea-ology Seasonal Chit Chat Sticker, matted the panel on to Glassine and fixed to a white A2 white card blank.
