Be Your Beautiful Self...

Hi folks, I did have a play yesterday with my new Dina Wakley Media Journal and I love the size which is perfect for using with smaller stamped images and I love the thick texture of the cotton watercolour paper which stands up well to using lots of water with paints, inks and sprays. I managed to create a fun whimsical art journal DT project for next week's Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge and will share a sneaky peek soon.
In the meantime, these delicious Distress Oxide Sprays have been winking at me, tempting me to take them out of their box on the Ranger storage shelf again to have another play.
Of course, I was powerless to resist and was intriqued to see how they would look on black cardstock and here's the result...
The effect is amazing and I love how the initial spray is so bright and colourful but the colours soften down to this gorgeous chalky look when dry and how you can see all the layers and the detail of each droplet.
I trimmed black cardstock to measure 6" x 6" square and spritzed generously with Picked Raspberry and Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide Sprays. I tilted the card, allowed the sprays to run a little and spritzed with water. I dried the first layer, added small sprays of colour randomly and dried again.
I fixed scraps of Distress Mixed Media Heavystock and black card to Tim Holtz/Sizzix Adhesive Sheet. I coloured the Mixed Media Heavystock with Picked Raspberry and Fossilized Amber Distress Oxides using mini round blending tools, spritzed with water to create that droplet effect and die cut the butterfly from Tim Holtz/Sizzix Geo Springtime Thinlits. I removed the butterfly carefully from the die, didn't remove the carrier sheet to ensure all the sections stayed in place and fixed to the card with Distress Collage Medium Matte. I die-cut the butterfly again from the black cardstock, removed the carrier sheet and fixed on top.
I die-cut the sentiment from the left over cards using Simon Says Stamp Script Hello dies

I stamped the Stitches image using Distress Black Soot Archival
added splatters of White Gesso, an Idea-ology Small Talk Sticker and Tiny Text Remnant Rubs
I trimmed the panel down to 5.3/4" square and added to a 6" square White card blank.
check out all that cool detail, I love the mix of all those individual little spray droplets
I suspect I'm now addicted to Distress Oxide Sprays and fear that the cubbyhole will become one great big SPLATBOX and that my Furry Partner will end up with a coat of many colours.
But not today, because a bumper parcel of new stamps and stencils have arrived from AALL&Create, just in time for me to get inky and have fun creating next week's Guest Designer project.

Toodle-oo for now

Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous - Distinguished

Hi folks, I'm back to share another card I made for the Stampers Anonymous Booth at Creativation 2019 using Distinguished CMS 371, with images of everything the well dressed man about town would have in his wardrobe.

There isn't a full step-by-step picture tutorial for this one because sometimes I get so immersed in the making that photos are the last thing on my mind and if my memory doesn't let me down, I hope I will be able to talk you through how I created this card.
I coloured Distress Mixed Media HeavyStock with Broken China and Frayed Burlap Distress Oxide inks using the "familiar by now" technique of smooshing the ink on to my Glass Media Mat, dragging the card through the ink, drying, spritzing with water, tapping the card back into the ink to pick up the remaining droplets and trimmed to be slightly smaller than an A6 card blank.
I stamped the jacket with bow tie image from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Distinguished with Black Soot Archival on to the panel and on to masking paper. I repeated with the clock face image and then stamped the umbrella.
I stamped the wording image with Ground Espresso Archival randomly on the background, added the music sections from a pack of left-over Idea-ology Remnant Rubs and splatters of Black Soot Distress Paint.
I stamped the hat and umbrella with Black Soot Archival on to a left-over scrap of the coloured Distress Mixed Media HeavyStock, fussy cut, fixed in place with Tim Holtz/Sizzix Mini Foam Adhesive and added droplets of Glossy Accents to the hat, umbrella and background. I added Idea-ology Small Talk Stickers sanded around the edges to reveal the white core and fixed in place with Distress Collage Medium Matte. I wound Black Eclectic Elements thread around the panel, attached an Idea-ology Foundry Adornment coloured lightly with Mushroom and Turquoise Alcohol Ink and tied the thread in a bow.
I matted the panel on to layers of Classic KraftStock, sanded to reveal the kraft core and fixed to an A6 card blank.
And woohoo, finally my "selling out everywhere like hot cakes" Dina Wakley White 6"x6" Media Journal and the amazing Collage Collective Book have arrived in the cubbyhole
and I'm looking forward to a "killing two birds with one stone" work/playtime kind of a day.

AALL&Create - Time Flies

Hi folks, it's hard to believe we are almost at the end of February already and the weather in my neck of the woods has turned positively spring-like, the sun is shining and the bulbs have started to poke their heads above ground which inspired me to create an Art Journal Page in my Dina Wakley Media Journal for this week's AALL&Create project using the Time Flies #143 stamp set designed by Tracy Evans and Stencils Circle Of Life #47 designed by Olga Heldwein and probably my favourite AALL&Create Stencil - Lotza Dotz #39 designed by Autour DeMwa

It was also an excuse to try out the new Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Sprays from Ranger. I sprayed Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide Spray on to the pages, followed by flicks of Peeled Paint, spritzed with water to create the oxidised effect and dried with a heat tool.
I spritzed Peeled Paint through the Circle Of Life Stencil #47, turned the stencil over and pressed on the pages to create a monoprint effect.
I inked sections of Time Flies #143 with Versafine Onyx Black and stamped randomly on the pages

I stamped the sentiment several times and images from the stamp set on to Distress Plain Collage Paper. I used a paintbrush and clean water to trace around the images, teased them apart with my finger and added to the pages using Distress Collage Medium Matte.
I applied Ranger Opaque Matte Texture Paste through Stencil #39 Lotza Dotz
and added white highlights to the butterfly and circles with a Sakura Gelly Roll Pen. I finished off by flicking splatters of Spiced Marmalade Distress Oxide Spray and White Gesso over the pages.

Simon Says - Vintage/Past Times

Hi Everyone...welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog...thank you for joining us for last week's challenge...we hope you can join us this week too because...

and the theme for this week is...
VINTAGE/ PAST TIMES

I decided to create a Vintage Shabby Chic canvas using Tim Holtz/Sizzix Large Stem and Tattered Butterfly BigZ dies and couldn't resist using the new Distress Oxide Sprays to colour the background.
So let's get started. I trimmed a Dina Wakley Media Board to measure 6" x 9", tapped White Gesso on to one of the images from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Scrollwork using a mini round blending tool and foam and stamped randomly around the edges. Because it's white on white, obviously you can't see anything yet but the paint will act as a resist and the stamping will show when colour is added. It's important to wash the stamp thoroughly to remove the paint before it dries and with such a fine detailed stamp, I used a toothbrush to remove the paint from the crevices.

I spritzed the canvas with Bundled Sage Distress Spray and then Cracked Pistachio andVintage Photo Distress Oxide Sprays, spritzed with water to spread the spray around and dried. I repeated the process until I was happy with the colours and I love the chalky oxidised look the Distress Oxide Sprays have once they are dry. I wiped over the stamped areas with a slightly damp cloth to reveal the beautiful detail of the scrollwork image.
I sanded the background to reveal the canvas texture of the Media Board and wiped off the dust with a soft brush.
I inked the background stamp from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Entomology with Ground Espresso Distress Archival ink and stamped randomly over the panel.
I die cut 2 flowers from Distress Mixed Media Heavystock using Tim Holtz/Sizzix Large Stem Bigz die and applied Ranger Opague Crackle Paste to the flowers and an Idea-ology Baseboard.
Once they were dry and the crackles had appeared, I applied a coat of Distress Collage Vintage Medium Matte
and coloured the stems and Idea-ology Baseboard with Vintage Photo Distress Crayon
I added Idea-ology Thrift Shop Ephemera to the baseboard, darkened the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Crayon and applied White Gesso to the flowers to create the look of dried, shrivelled up flowers that have lost their colour.

I used the Tim Holtz/Sizzix Tattered Butterfly BigZ die to die cut the butterflies from Distress Mixed Media Heavystock, coloured with Spiced Marmalade and Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Sprays, stamped with the Entomology Background and sanded the edges to reveal the lighter core of the card.
I fixed a piece of Idea-logy Lace Trimmings at the side of the Baseboard panel using Distress Collage Medium Matte and added twine around the edges and behind where the butterfly would be. I find the easiest way to do this is, coat your fingers with Distress Collage Medium Matte and then run them along the length of twine, place the twine down and apply pressure for a few moments. Distress Collage Medium Matte dries quickly so you may have to reapply as you work your way round.I threaded buttons from my stash with twine and coloured the buttons, an Idea-ology Pen Nib and Quote Chip with Mushroom and Tranquil Pearl Alcohol inks.

I scribbled Walnut Stain Distress Crayon on the edges of the panel, rubbing it into the texture with a damp finger and finished by flicking on splatters of White Gesso.
