Simon Says...Layer It Up...

Hi Everyone...welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog...thank you for joining us for last week's "Handmade Flowers" challenge...we hope you can join us this week too because...

and the theme for this week is...
LAYER IT UP
I decided to dig out an Idea-ology Small Folio Folder I've been hoarding for ages and create a travel documents holder/journal for a fun trip I'm taking in April and take the opportunity to use some of the scrap papers I've also been hoarding from Tim Holtz Correspondence Paper Stash. Chances are this will be in and out of my handbag numerous times on my trip so anything bulky is not going to be practical and any fussy 3D embellishments are likely to get damaged so the challenge was to create a layered look without the bulk...
With no plan in mind and no measuring involved...I started to cut up the scrap papers into an assortment of sizes and fixed them down...overlapping to create a layered collage effect...with the best adhesive for the job...the fabulous Ranger Distress Collage Medium. I work in small areas at a time because this medium dries very quickly.
with the outside covered I turned my attention to the inside...
covered the removable insert with papers and created pockets to hold flight and hotel reservations. I then stuck the insert in place with strong double sided tape and created extra pockets inside the flaps.
I die cut the Thinlits Globe...the Cityscape Skyline and the Cityscape Commute aeroplane from the Idea-ology Classic Kraft Stock Pad...die cut the Skyline again from blue and red papers from the Kraft Pad and cut out individual elements but omitted to take a photo. I then applied a top coat of Collage Medium Matte over all the collaged surfaces and used the Walnut Stain Distress Crayon to add shadowing to the papers and the die cuts and Picket Fence to add highlights.

I used Tim's Block Upper alphabet to stamp the word on to Idea-ology Plain Tissue Wrap...with Black Archival and again with Versamark...heat embossed using Ranger's Fine Detail White Embossing powder...cut around the lettering and fixed them in place with Collage Medium Matte slightly offset to create a drop shadow...
I added Idea-ology Postal Design Tape...Elements and Words Remnant Rubs...SmallTalk and Chit Chat Stickers...
and the aeroplane from Thinlits Cityscape Commute die cut from red paper from the Kraft Pad and white card...

all finished ready for my trip with a place for all the important stuff...passport...flight e-ticket...hotel reservation...I just need to tuck in some spending money and I'm good to go.
