Simon Says...Nautical

Hi Everyone...welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog...thank you for joining us for last week's challenge...we hope you can join us this week too because...

and the theme for this week is...
NAUTICAL
I made a fun and whimsical art journal page dedicated to Edward Lear's
fabulous nonsense poem published in 1871

The Owl and The Pussycat went to sea
In a beautiful pea green boat
They took some honey and plenty of money
Wrapped up in a five pound note

I coloured Distress Watercolor paper with Salty Ocean and Broken China Distress Oxide inks...the usual smooshing, drying and spritzing until I was happy with my sky background...
I then tore strips of Distress Watercolor card, coloured with the same inks and although it looks pretty much like the sky in this photo I did add more Broken China to turn it into a greeny blue. I roughed up and curled the edges and fixed to the bottom of the page.
I used the Rays Layering Stencil with Wild Honey Distress Oxide ink to add the sun...
and used the Sizzix/Tim Holtz Tea Time die to create that beautiful pea green boat. I scored lines to mimic wood, coloured with Peeled Paint Distress Oxide and shaded with Walnut Stain
I added a mast and a sail cut from Idea-ology Textile Surfaces, added eyelets from my stash, twine and a flag decorated with a skull and crossbones Remnant Rub...
I stamped a Stampers Anonymous Crazy Cat and Bird with Black Archival ink and die cut using the Sizzix/Tim Holtz matching Framelits...
coloured with Distress Markers and tucked them in to the slits in the teacup/boat. I stamped and die cut the mortar board and scroll for the £5 note from Crazy Things and added a pirate's patch on the cat. I coloured the Prima French Riviera Paintables (globe and starfish) with Distress Oxide inks and added Life Quotes Remnant Rubs.
I stamped the sentiment with Distress Paints using Idea-ology Type Lower Foam Stamps, added Label Letters and splatters to the page using Picket Fence and highlighted the letters with Ranger's Black Fude Pen.
I stamped the octopus from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Seal Life, coloured with Broken China and Walnut Stain Distress Oxides, highlighted his tentacles with a Signo Uniball White Pen.
I also stamped the compass image from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Tiny Things on the background with Salty Ocean Distress Oxide ink.

  10. This is great fun Kath and I love all the 'adapt and over come' bits. How would have thought a teacup could look like a boat and a graduation scroll like a £5 note LOL! Love it!
