Simon Says...Tear It Up

Hi Everyone...welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog...thank you for joining us for last week's challenge...we hope you can join us this week too because...

and the theme for this week is...

TEAR IT UP

 I created a Winter Wonderland Wall Hanger...

I had something entirely different in mind for this project but happened to find the Tim Holtz Motif Kraft Resist Paper Pad in my paper stash when I was looking for something else. I have always loved the Resist Paper Pads so decided to ditch my original idea...that's crafting for you and the way the cookie crumbles sometimes in this mad crafty place we call the cubbyhole. Unfortunately I think these paper pads are now a discontinued line but Simon Says does have this particular one, a mix of kraft and white 12" x 12" sheets with different resist motifs, in stock.

I cut a panel, fixed it to thick chipboard, brushed on a coat of Picket Fence Distress Paint and wiped it back around the edges with a paper towel revealing the resist pattern.

I then applied a coat of Ranger Opague Crackle Texture Paste in the centre.

tore up strips from some left-over Tim Holtz/Sizzix Stitched Rectangles and fixed them in place with Distress Collage Medium Matte. I then gave the whole panel a coat of the Collage Medium Matte creating a non-porous surface for the easy application of Distress Crayons.

I created shadows around the snowbanks and the Crackle element with a Black Soot Distress Crayon and at this stage of the process, thought I had gone too dark but decided to run with it.

I then scribbled over the background with an Evergreen Bough Distress Crayon rubbing it into the crackle with my finger and then wiping it back with a slightly damp baby wipe...

I popped the panel in to the Stamp Platform so that I could re-stamp the images if necessay on this uneven surface. I stamped the snowflake image from Mini Swirly Snowflakes with Potting Soil Archival Ink and the stars/snow image from Great Outdoors with Versamark and heat embossed with Ranger Super Fine White Embossing Powder.

I still wasn't sure about all those black shadows but hey did I really want to start all over again? What do you think. So I moved on to die cut the deer from Tim Holtz/Sizzix Winter Wonderland, the trees from Home For The Holidays and lots of foliage from Garden Greens using Classic Kraftstock, white card and card coloured with Evergreen Bough Distress Paint and added dots of Ranger White Enamel Accents. And I know I'm repeating myself here but I love love love my new best friend, the amazing Tim Holtz/Sizzix Sidekick, how did I ever manage without this little guy who sits happily on my workdesk, doesn't take up much room at all and has really speeded up every die-cutting session.

I fixed the die cuts in place with Ranger Multi Medium Matte, leaving the foliage unattached at the tops to create dimension and popped the large deer up with 3D foam and now the dark shadows don't look quite so in your face.

I added an Alpha Transparent Tile fixed to a scrap of the Resist Paper with Glossy Accents and added Texture Paste around the edges, and White and Gilded Metallic Christmas Remnant Rubs...

Holiday Talk Stickers and a little bit of Picket Fence Distress Paint splattering...

I fixed the panel to a sheet of white cardstock and tore around the edges leaving a border and then on to a panel of white cardstock coloured with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide ink...

and added Crinkle Ribbon and twine bows...
