AALL&Create - Elegant Peacock

Hi folks, it's Tuesday and time to share this week's Guest Designer project for AALL&Create. I decorated the cover of a Mini Book with the gorgeous Elegant Peacock #163 stamp set designed by Tracy Evans. I decided to keep it simple and create a metallic shimmering background using Ranger Perfect Pearls, a product I haven't used for years, with the image as the star of the show. However, I quickly realised as the project moved along, that the shimmer was going to be a challenge to photograph and I warn you in advance, there are lots of "shot from all angles" photographs in an effort to capture the shimmer without the glare.

I began by die-cutting a notebook from mat board using Sizzix Travellers Notebook die, applied a coat of Black Gesso, stamped the image from Elegant Peacock #163 with Versamark ink on the front of the notebook and heat embossed with Ranger Superfine Clear Embossing Powder
I scooped a little Ranger Sunflower Sparkle and Pewter Perfect Pearls into the lids, added water to a thin paint consistency and applied with a brush randomly on the front cover. The embossing will resist the Perfect Pearls allowing the images to show through.
I repeated the process with Perfect Bronze and Turquoise.
I mixed up a separate wash of the three metallic colours and applied in layers to the back cover, drying between each layer and added splatters of all four colours.
I applied the same wash of just three colours to black card
and stamped the words from #163 Elegant Peacock with Versafine Onyx Black Ink.
I fussy cut the words, fixed to white cardstock and added to the front cover using Distress Collage Medium Matte. I painted the spine of the notebook with Black Gesso and also used it to add shadows to the edges.
To finish, I added highlights to the images and randomly on the background using a Sakura White Gelly Roll Pen. Because I mixed the Perfect Pearls with water to make a paint, the water reacts with the resin in the Perfect Pearls making it permanent, so no need to seal.
