Morning folks......my thoughts this morning are in New York City with all those who lost their loved ones on this day in 2001.
We all remember where we were on that fateful day.......I had just arrived in Malaga the previous evening to spend a happy fun girly holiday with my lovely friend Nancy....who is a native New Yorker......little did we know as we sat chatting and laughing into the night....the horrendous events that would unfold the following morning.
We just sat there in our jammies tuned in to CNN in total shock and disbelief.....too stunned to cry....was this some sick joke...and then those heart wrenching moments when the towers fell....my heart was breaking for my lovely friend who put on her happy face so as not to spoil my holiday...spending 3 agonising days waiting for news of her friend who worked in one of the towers....thankfully the news came he was safe.
Three years later....my Sis and I visited New York.....couldn't make up our minds about visiting Ground Zero...had it become a ghoulish tourist attraction........definitely not and I am so glad we went....it was perhaps the most profound experience I have ever had in my life....hundreds of folks walking around lost in their own thoughts and emotions...trying to come to terms with the enormity of the evil act that took the lives of so many innocent people and devastated the lives of many thousands more....I could never in a million years find the words to describe the atmosphere...I was totally overwhelmed by the complete and utter eerie silence as everyone paid their own tribute to all those souls who lost their lives on a day that changed the world forever..........Hugs Kath xxxxxxx
I'm so with you on this day Kath.
ReplyDeleteI had wanted to visit New York for about 20 years and was overwhelmed when I eventually got there last November.
We walked to Ground Zero and I had the same apprehension as you - but I am so glad I went. We visited the Museum next door to the fire station - the most moving experiance of my life. All done very tastefully and monies raised goes to the families fund.
My heart goes out to all who were affected by the horrendeous events that took place in all 3 sites on 9/11.

I think we can all remember where we were that day. I was on holiday too in Sa Coma, Majorca and when we saw the news we were just stunned. I think we just went through the motions of the rest of the holiday as you just couldn't get this awful tragedy out of you mind. My thoughts are also with everyone who was sadly affected by these awful events.
