Simon Says - Let's Be On Time

Hi Everyone...welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. Thank you for joining us for last week's challenge and we hope you can join us this week too because

and the theme for this week is...
Let's Be On Time
I'm a stickler for good time-keeping and in my humble opinion, being late for an appointment is just plain rude. But when your memory is not what it used to be, a new year requires a new planner to keep things on track and ticking along nicely.
I had great fun creating this "can't live without" 2021 aide-memoire using Sizzix Mat Board, covered with Tim Holtz gorgeous Abandoned Fabric and decorated with Tim Holtz/Sizzix Perspective Butterfly, Alphanumeric Bold Thinlits and bits and pieces of Idea-ology Ephemera.

I began by trimming Sizzix Mat Board to create 2 covers 6" x 8" and a strip 3/4" wide for the spine,  held together with Book Binding Tape leaving a small gap between the spine and covers to allow for closure. I fixed the covers to a panel of Tim Holtz Abandoned fabric using Distress Collage Medium Matte, folded over the raw edges, mitred the corners and added another coat of Distress Collage Medium Matte on both sides. I created a pen loop from white elastic and fixed slightly smaller panels of Distress Kraft HeavyStock on the inside using Scor-Tape. A huge thank you to my sweet, kind and very generous friend Anne, the Queen of Books and Journals, who kindly sent me the Abandoned Fabric and Book Binding Tape for this project but if you don't have the fabric the Abandoned Paper (linked below) would be a great alternative.
I die-cut the butterflies from Distress White HeavyStock and Idea-ology BlackOut KraftStock using Tim Holtz/Sizzix Perspective Thinlits
I fixed the butterflies to the front cover using Distress Collage Medium, slightly offset to create a drop shadow and once dry, sanded back to reveal the kraft core.
I created 2 pockets for the inside by covering panels of Distress Kraft HeavyStock with the fabric, added machine stitching around the edges and fixed in place at the edges with Scor-Tape. I added another Perspective Butterfly, a small calendar tab and the planner insert on the back cover.
I added Idea-ology Field Notes, other bits and pieces of Ephemera, Small Talk Stickers and applied another coat of Distress Collage Medium over the front and inside covers.
I created shadows around the Ephemera using a Walnut Stain Distress Crayon, blending the colour out with my finger and removing any excess with a soft cloth.
I die-cut "2021" from Distress White HeavyStock and Idea-ology BlackOut KraftStock using Tim Holtz/Sizzix Alphanumeric Bold Thinlits, layered to match the butterflies and fixed in place with Distress Collage Medium.
I added splatters using a Posca White Paint Pen

To finish I punched holes at the edge of the front and back covers and created a simple closure using a Tim Holtz/Ideaology Hitch Fastener and a loop of elastic cord.
