If you are a regular reader of my blog....you will know how much I love birdies....I have quite a number of these "Home Sweet Home" type nesting boxes in my garden and all in use.....it is fascinating to walk Mum & Dad ferrying back and forth all day with food for their chicks....egged on by the constant cheeping coming from the boxes. As the weeks pass.....little heads appear at the opening and then the big day arrives when they are ready to leave......Mum usually sits on the trellis and chirps lots of encouragement and then one by one they are airborne....and I swear the look of fear on their little faces as they launch themselves into the unknown...some drop like stones and then the instinct kicks...the wings frantically flap and they are flying albeit a little shakily.....I could sit and watch them all day. They usually stay in the garden for about a week and then they are gone.....off into the big wide world. One poor little chick last year didn't get the flapping quite right and landed with a bump on the steps just outside the patio doors which were open.....he then hopped into the family room...took off rather shakily followed by "The Budster" and flew through to the kitchen....by this time Mum was by herself and frantically chirping to him......luckily he found his way through the utility room and headed out through the open back door to a rather relieved Mum who gave him a severe talking to.
