surprise...surprise....no rush hour traffic this morning
and the cook-fest has begun....home made soup heading for the freezer....
Christmas Cake made but not yet marzipaned or iced.....what's the rush...tomorrow is another day and believe me folks I have iced my Christmas Cake on Christmas Eve on one or two occasions in the past and it was fine...well let's put it this way there were no complaints
Christmas Dinner would be an absolute doodle if that was the only meal we had to think about....oh no they expect a meal every night in the run up to the day of mega feasting...how inconsiderate....the shopping list reads like War and Peace and then it's a logistical nightmare to fit everything into the fridge but the bonus of the sub zero weather is that the garage is colder than the fridge and doubles up as extra storage.
It looks like another chilly snowfall today so it's time to get the oven on and cook the ham....mix up the ingredients for the meat loaves and getting chopping veggies for even more soup.....yes we are stocking up the larders...I have the feeling it's going to be a long winter.

My goodness Kath, how many are you expecting to descend upon you?? Beginning to think you are going to be feeding the masses. If you decided to go on strike would they all still manage? - me thinks so, so I say sit back, put your feet up and watch a chrismas movie with a box of chocolates and a coffee close to hand.

ReplyDeleteIt does still look beautiful but although we haven't yet had more snow although it is forcast we have freezing temperatures, my patio thermometer read -12 this morning and yesturday didn't get above -8 all day. I guess at least when you are cooking all the time you get extra warmth and there isn't anything better thansome fab comfort food is there. Stay warm and cosy, cuddles to Buddy and happy christmas to all.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful outside here. We had another cm!! last night. I have never shoveled so much snow in one week. My dog's feet look like Buddy's after he's been outside. I'm going on a food shopping trip this afternoon.

Poor Buddy, he wee ice encrusted feet - he's a hero for going out walking in a winter wonderland with you so you can take beautiful photos like these. ReplyDeleteOh, do I remember those days (of cooking and cooking and cooking for the onslaught of family at Christmas. I was always so exhausted between that and getting the house ready. But our family is split from coast to coast now, and that's all a thing of the past; I think I'd like to do it one more time, if it meant us all being together once again. It's worth it.

Hi Kath! Looks like you've gotten hit again! We had another 7 inches of the white stuff yesterday, on top of the foot from last week and the other foot from the week before! Not sure where they're going to put it all! And we are suppose to get more on Thursday! Definitely a winter to remember! Merry Christmas to you! Stay cozy and warm!
ReplyDeleteWinter Wonderland indeed! Poor Buddy's toes! I'll bet he couldn't wait to get the snow off them. I don't miss the snow at all. I live in norther New Hampshire in the US, for about 10 years. And grew up in western Pennsylvania. All snow and cold weather country! Now I'm in South Carolina. It does get cold, but not nearly like in the frozen north! I love seeing all the pretty snow pix, but looking is all I want! Merry Christmas to you and yours.

ReplyDeleteYou have been busy on the cooking front Kath! I was only supposed to be making a Pavlova to take to Catriona's but not sure what's going to happen now. If we've got no heating we'll be stuck here in case of frozen pipes. At least we'll not starve as there's plenty in the freezer. I used to make Christmas cake and dozens of mince pies (and apple pies for the one who doesn't like mince pies) but my lot ate so much that sometimes the cake didn't get cut for ages! I love Christmas cake and mince pies but it's not good for the waistline so I don't make them now!

Merry Christmas Kath, Lovely pictures. Your soup looks yummy. I finish work tomorrow yippeee, then will be walking in the snow to go to Tescoes to trudge back home with all the shopping I can possible manage to carry. One good thing I got the turkey last week. Have a few more pressies to wrap. Then have my little grandaughter Thursday. Then the mad cooking and clean up will begin on Christmas eve. Worn out just reading this.
