Simon Says - Whatever The Weather

Hi Everyone...welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog...thank you for joining us for last week's challenge...we hope you can join us this week too because...

The first challenge of the month means that the Design Team are showcasing products from a certain company/designer and this month it's the turn of my adorable Professor, Tim Holtz and I'm sure you all have some of his amazing products in your craft stash and we would love to see how you use them.
We are also welcoming  the lovely and super talented Lisa Rabellino into the Designer Spotlight. If you haven't visited her blog you are in for a real treat! Please pop by to say 'Hi'

and the theme for this week is...
WHATEVER THE WEATHER
The weather seems to be crazy all over the world and it doesn't get much crazier than snow falling in Las Vegas whilst in my neck of the woods, when we should be in the depths of Winter, Spring seems to have arrived early. But we have no control over such things so I decided to create a whimsical Art Journal page in my new 6" x 6" Dina Wakley Media Journal with a reminder to "Look On The Bright Side, Whatever The Weather" featuring the super cute characters from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Funny Farm.

The pages in the White Media Journal are made from very thick, textured cotton watercolour paper and I knew that stamping on them might be a challenge. I started off by stamping the silly goose image from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Funny Farm and the umbrella handles from Distinguished with Hickory Smoke Archival ink.
I applied a generous amount of clean water to the pages using a large brush and added diluted Faded Jeans Paint Distress Oxide re-inker to small areas at a time, letting the water work it's magic to move the ink around, helped by a spritz or two from the Distress Sprayer. I dabbed off any excess colour from around the edges with a clean paper towel and once I was happy with the sky area, I repeated with Peeled Paint for the foreground.
I used the Hex Shifter Mini Layering Stencil from Stencil Set 40 with Faded Jeans/Hickory Smoke and Fossilized Amber/Spiced Marmalade Distress Mini Archival inks using a mini round blending tool to add interest to the sky area.
I stamped one the images from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Stitches using Peeled Paint Distress Mini Archival Ink repeatedly to create a grass effect and ground the stamped images.
I stamped the sentiment using Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Blockprint inked with Faded Jeans Distress Archival and Altenew Calligraphy Alpha inked with Black Soot Distress Archival
I masked off the leaf sprig section on the Funny Farm stamp, inked with Black Soot and stamped randomly across the pages.
I stamped the Funny Farm characters with Black Soot and the umbrellas with Faded Jeans, Fossilized Amber and Picked Raspberry Archival inks on to scraps of Distress Watercolor card and fussy cut.
At his point, I decided that the original stamping with Hickory Smoke Archival was not dark enough so rather than attempt to re-stamp on the pages with Black Soot, I stamped them on to Idea-ology Plain Collage Paper, coloured the geese with White Gesso and Spiced Marmalade Distress Marker on the reverse of the paper and fixed over the original images using Distress Collage Medium Matte.
I added splatters of Black Soot Distress Paint and fixed the umbrella in place.
I coloured the Funny Farm characters using Distress Oxide inks and a Distress Detailer Brush, fixed in place with Distress Collage Medium Matte and added the umbrellas.
I added white dots to the "W" using a Sakura White Gelly Roll Pen and outlined the calligraphy alphas with a Sakura Black Micron Pen.
I added Idea-ology Small Talk Stickers and used the Sakura Black Micron pen to doodle lines around the edge of the pages, the stickers and the tops of the umbrellas.
