Simon Says - Use Stencils

Hi Everyone...welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog...thank you for joining us for last week's challenge...we hope you can join us this week too because...

and the theme for this week is...
USE STENCILS
I love Tim Holtz Layering Stencils so I looked out some old favourites to create an art panel using a Dina Wakley 5" x 7" Canvas Media Board and the latest release of Distress Oxide Sprays.

I sprayed the panel with water, then with the four colours of Distress Oxide Sprays, dried and spritzed with water again to lift some of the colour and create that soft oxidised look.
I scraped on some White Gesso with a palette knife to soften and lighten the panel even more.
I applied Distress Paints through the Layering Stencils using a mini round blending tool, Splotches with Abandoned Coral, Mosaic with Picket Fence and Speckles with Ground Espresso.
I used Ground Espresso with the Wildflower Layering Stencil and immediately had an oops moment, it was so "in your face" dark, time to implement Plan B.
I replaced the stencil and dabbed on more Ground Espresso toned down with Picket Fence, dried and repeated until the final application was just Picket Fence.
I wasn't happy with the Mosaic stencilling either, that's the way it goes sometimes, so I replaced the stencil and applied Ranger Crackle Texture Paste and once it was dry, applied a wash of Abandoned Coral and Twisted Citron Distress Paints to highlight the crackle.
I fixed small sections of Tim Holtz Botanical Collage Paper in place with Distress Collage Medium Matte, applied Ranger Crackle Texture Paste through the Speckles Layering Stencil and added splatters of the 4 Distress Oxide sprays I had used for the background.
I die cut Tim Holtz/Sizzix Tattered Butterfly from Distress Mixed Media Heavystock which I had coloured with Distress Oxide Sprays earlier in the week and if my memory serves me right, using Distress Resist Spray, Black Soot Distress Spray, Worn Lipstick, Antique Linen and Abandoned Coral Distress Oxide Sprays.
I die-cut Tim Holtz/Sizzix Trinket Frames from Distress Watercolor card and white cardstock and layered to create dimension. I painted with Black Soot Distress Paint and spritzed with Ground Espresso and Antique Linen Distress Oxide Sprays.
I placed Plain Distress Collage Paper in my stamp platform, traced around the frame with a pencil and stamped the sentiment from Handwritten Thoughts inked with Black Soot Distress Archival and heat embossed with Ranger Superfine Clear Embossing Powder.
I added Ranger Crackle Texture Paste to the Trinket Frame through the Speckles Layering Stencil and set aside to dry.
I fixed the stamped Collage Paper and Trinket Frame in place with Distress Collage Medium Matte. I coloured the Baseboard Doll with Distress Markers and a Detailer Brush and attached to the panel with Tim Holtz/Sizzix Mini Foam Adhesive.
I added Idea-ology Mummy Cloth and Small Talk Stickers

and fixed the Tattered Butterfly in place with Mini Foam Adhesive

  1. Oh wow Kath, the butterfly is absolutely stunning and I love the background you created. The baseboard doll is adorable.

I have not ventured out too much yet with the Oxide sprays but seeing your background makes me want to go and have a play. Thanks, as always, for the inspiration. Hugs, Anne xxx
