Simon Says - Not A Card

Hi Everyone...welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. Thank you for joining us for last week's challenge and we hope you can join us this week too because

It's the first challenge of the month and the Design Team are showcasing products from Stamperia, you don't have to use them to join in the challenge, but if you have them in your stash, we would love to see what you make with them.
We are also welcoming the lovely and very talented Lyla aka A Chief's Wife's Heart's A Fire as our Designer In The Spotlight. If you haven 't visited her blog before you are in for a treat.
The theme for this week is...
NOT A CARD
I decorated a panel to brighten up the "to do list" notice board in my craft room using Stamperia Ink & Labels Calligraphy Soft Mold, Amazing Casting Resin, Distress Paints, Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Script Mini Layering Stencil from Set 49 and Observations stamp set.
I trimmed Sizzix MatBoard to 6" square, covered with Tim Holtz Idea-ology Correspondence papers to match the decoration on the notice board, added small sections cut from the papers to create a collage effect, all fixed in place with Distress Collage Medium. I created shadows around the edges of the panel and collaged pieces using a Black Soot Distress Crayon and a Distress Detailer Brush. I applied Distress Grit Paste through the Tim Holtz/Stampers Mini Layering Stencil from Set, stamped the sentiment from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Observations inked with Candied Apple Distress Oxide ink and set aside to dry. (The Correspondence 12" x 12" paper pad I used is now a retired product but if you are a Tim Holtz Addict, like me, you probably have some in your stash)
Now it was time to have some fun with the Amazing Casting Resin and Stamperia Mould. I poured an  equal amount from the two bottles into the plastic measuring cups provided, poured them into a paper cup and stirred to mix for about 30 seconds. I poured the mixture into the mould and left to set. It takes about 10-15 minutes to cure and once it has turned pure white, the pieces can be removed from the mould. This was my first time using these products and I was very impressed with the results and how easy the casting resin is to use. The items have a slick surface, so I applied a coat of black gesso and left to dry overnight.
I painted the castings with Distress Paints and drybrushed with Antique Linen, Picket Fence and Brushed Pewter Distress Paints.
I fixed the castings to the panel using my hot glue gun. I thought the "Writing" plague was too large so I heated the casting until it was soft, trimmed off the outer edge and fixed slightly hanging off the edge of the panel.
I punched holes in the panel and added Idea-ology Ball Chain and Fluted Fasteners.

  3. What a fabulous panel you have created Kath, I love it just for the pen alone! It looks wonderful hanging on your board. I am so pleased that you liked using the resin, as you know, I have a slight addiction to it - I just like watching it dry so quickly! Hugs, Anne xxx

  6. What a fabulous panel to display Kath, love those casting from that set but i've never been as brave to use resin with it yet. They sit beautifully all painted up upon your layered panel and everything used works in complete harmony. Beautiful inspiring creation, thank you for sharing.
    Creative wishes Tracey.
