Less Is More Challenge...Week 18

Morning folks...I'm tuckered out from the mega Spring Clean in the cubbyhole...one of those jobs that you wish you'd never started but once it's done you're glad you did..but why do us crafters feel such a need to hoard stuff.. .just wish that I could flick the "tidy everything in sight" button to OFF sometimes.....it seems to be permanently stuck at OFF when it comes to spring cleaning the rest of the house....sound familiar.
Mr Mojo and I have come to a little arrangement....if I could have just one more play...yes the chance to join in one more challenge...I promised I would put my crafty hat on and get stuck into worky stuff today so time to join in the fun over at LESS IS MORE....and this week is all about....
MONOCHROME
 shades of brown...clean and simple

Papers: Tim Holtz Kraft Resist Pad
Dies: Magnolia....DooHickey Doily Flowers & Bon Voyage Foliage
Tim Holtz Distress Ink...Brushed Corduroy & Walnut Stain
Brad: American Crafts
Image: Paperartsy...Words 4

What I initally thought was going to be a quick churn it out card turned into a die cutting nightmare.....I fell in love with this Doohickey Doily Flower Die the minute I saw it and it just had to come and take up residence in the cubbyhole...don't know if I am quite so enamoured with it now. What a faffing around to get it to die cut properly...I am waiting for the Wafer Thin Adapter arriving for the Vagabond and fingers crossed that may solve the problem...but what a TO DO trying out various shims before I could get it to cut cleanly with the Cuttlebug or The Big Shot.....where am I going wrong...do you have any magic tips and tricks you can pass on...I am so not into faffing.
Well a deal's a deal....so Hi Ho.. Hi Ho....it's off to work I go. Catch up with you all tomorrow for some sneaky peeks of more Altered Art....yes me having fun with paint again.
Hugs Kath xxx

  2. Hi Kath, great to have you join our challenge again this week, this is lovely, I love the overprinting on the leaves too!
Some dies are SO dependent upon card thickness etc., I hate it when they don't cut cleanly, looks like your faffing worked though!
    Thanks so much

  3. This is just gorgeous Kath.
I found when my new leaf die would not cut very well,I put thick papers throught he cuttlebug over and over, then took the leaves out, fresh paper, and away I went again, and that seemed to 'limber' up the die, and now it's a breeze.

  8. Love the card Kath.
Sorry I can't help you with the die. I have these but they cut perfectly through the Big shot and I've never needed a shim or anything. I just use the multi-purpose platform and the two acrylic mats.

I hope someone can offer you the advice you need.

  12. What a fantastic card Kath, as always!
i love those dies, I need them NOW lol

Glad you did a deal with Mr Mojo, he is an understanding chap at times, just hate the way he pops up unannounced!!

The vagabond shim is so thin, I was amazed, but I guess its been tried and tested and works! I find running a piece of paper as well as the card can help. But, I've found some just don't work cleanly full stop. So me no help at all!

    Thank you so much

Very elegant. I've got so many things I want to do today! I need to blog a DT card, make an acceptance card for an evening reception and I really want to make a LIM card. And I'd like to play too!!

Where did the lovely day go? Time to take the boys for their next walk and it's pouring. Guess it was too nice too early.

  23. Well this challenge is right up your street Kath, and you did a brilliant job. I know what you mean about some dies not cutting cleanly though, I have a butterfly one that is a nightmare so it lives in the back of the cupboard unless I am desperate! This flower really is pretty though. Hope you are well, I am struggling with a plane bug - oh well...

  25. Hi Kath, an absolutely fab card, love every thing on it. I have all makes of dies and a big shot, when I cut the thin dies I use the big base plate (mine is the old kind not a multi one), clear plate a Spellbinders white spacer plate , die card, and lastly the other clear plate. This works for nearly every thing. If it doesn't I have a very thin plastic shim which came from an old Zippy Mate die cutter set. When using shims card is soft and will condense so try to use hard things where possible. I have seen some metal shim plates advertised but out of stock at moment, think it was at Dies to Die For. 26. Sympathize with the dies - I hate punches that don't cut cleanly. Love what you achieved with this though - worth all that effort it was most definitely. I've continued filling the bin with Copics blending.......
Absolutely love this card & it certainly brightened my evening browse in blogland. Night.
