over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog
my first post as a new Design Team Member. The theme this week is "Inspired By A Song" and I chose a song recorded by Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash...guaranteed to make me smile on a chilly winter's day...
YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away"
You make me happy when skies are grey
You never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away"
and made a Bird Crazy Wall Hanger
I started by spritzing Ranger Watercolor Paper with water and then applied a wash of Stormy Sky and Mustard Seed Distress Paints with the Ranger Broad Water Brush. Once dry I used the same colour of Distress Inks with a Mini Blending Tool to intensify the colours and blend. I used Layering Stencil Rays and Fossilized Amber Distress Ink to create the sun ray effect in the corner and then overstamped with a Circle stamp inked with Simon Says Stamp White Pigment Ink...sprinkled with Ranger White Embossing Powder and heat set...I stamped the flower images from Tim Holtz Wildflowers Stamp Set...first in Black Archival Ink and then the larger flower image with Simon Says Stamp White Pigment Ink...sprinkled with Ranger White Embossing Powder and heat set.
then it was time to have some stamping and die-cutting fun. I stamped the image from the Bird Crazy Stamp Set and the hat and set of hearts from the Crazy Things Stamp Set on to watercolour card with Archival Black Ink and used the Ranger Detailer Water Brush to colour the bird with Mustard Seed and Twisted Citron...the hat with Antique Linen and Twisted Citron Mini Distress Inks and used the Candied Apple Distress Marker for the beak and the hearts. Easy peasy to die cut using the matching Thinlits Bird Crazy and Crazy Things Dies. I added Glossy Accents to the eyes and beak of the bird and the hearts.
I used the Scribbles and Splats Thinlits to create a nest for the bird to sit on...coloured with Walnut Stain Distress Ink and added a strip of Linen Ribbon to create texture. I also used the linen ribbon to create the hanger for the project. Finishing off with Tim Holtz Idea-ology Chit Chat and Big Chat Stickers for the sentiment.

ReplyDeleteGreat work as your first post for SSS, Kath. It brings an element I have always thought was missing from your blog...the "how to's". I really enjoyed being able to see that info., and the clear photos were just icing on the cake. Thanks for taking the time to do both, and congratulations on being a design team member.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the details about how you made your creation. It's much more meaningful to understand what you did than to just admire your work.

ReplyDeleteYour canvas caught my eye and I saved it to try to duplicate it or something similar. My (one and only grandchild) granddaughter is my sunshine and I want to make this for her. They are building a new house and this would be special hanging on her wall. Thank you for the inspiration. :-)

What an absolutely sweet project! I thought you did a remarkable job of combining all of the elements to form a whimsical, yet high-class scene. I especially love the rays of sun you created and how you balanced everything out just right. And that song has a tender place in my heart as it's one that our family grew up with. Great piece and a great tribute indeed! Have I mentioned how AWESOME it is to have you on our team?? Yay!
