Tim Holtz/Sizzix - With Brave Wings She Flies

Hi my friends, I'm sharing the Etcetera Tag I made for the YouTube Live launch of Tim Holtz/Sizzix Chapter 3 using the gorgeous Butterfly 3D Impresslits, Stacked Rectangles and Varsity Alphabet. If you missed the live, you can catch up with all the new products from the release and the amazing projects from all the makers over on Tim's Blog HERE.

I have to say this project was far easier to make than it was to photograph, sun streaming into the cubbyhole on a very bright summer's day seemed to bleach out the colours somewhat and the tag was much more vibrant in real life - and who says, the camera never lies.
I began by die-cutting lots of rectangles from the textured side of Distress Watercolor card using Tim Holtz/Stacked Rectangles Thinlits, fixed to a Etcetera Tag using Distress Collage Medium and once it was dry, sanded the edges to neaten. I applied Rusty Hinge, Speckled Egg and Vintage Photo Distress Paints using a Distress Brayer, skipping lightly over the surface to create a soft mottled effect. I added torn strips of Idea-ology Specimen Collage Paper, Stacked Rectangle frames, painted with Speckled Egg Distress Paint and applied a coat of Distress Collage Medium over the whole tag.
I used Walnut Stain Distress Crayon to add shadows around the edges of the rectangle frames and tiles on the background and added trimmed down butterfly images from Idea-ology Field Notes Ephemera.
I die-cut the 3D Butterfly Impresslits twice from Idea-ology Gold Metallic KraftStock and applied a coat of Distress Collage Medium, rubbing it into the detail and smoothing it out with my finger. I scribbled Walnut Stain Distress Crayon over the butterflies and pushed it into the detail with my finger, wiping off any excess with a soft cloth. I tapped Rusty Hinge and Speckled Egg Distress Paints on to the butterflies, sprinkled with Embossing Glazes and heat set. I repeated this process until I was happy with the effect and added highlights on the raised areas using Picket Fence Distress Crayon.
I bent the butterfly wings upwards, fixed teased out sections of Idea-ology Mummy Cloth to the background and added the butterflies on top, only applying adhesive on the body sections. I die-cut the word FLY from Idea-ology Gold Metallic KraftStock and Distress Watercolor card, coloured with Specked Egg Distress Paint. I applied Distress Collage Medium over the gold letters with my finger and once it was dry, used Walnut Stain Distress Crayon to accentuate the stitching, rubbing any excess of with a soft cloth. I fixed the words in place with Distress Collage Medium.
I added Idea-ology Mummy Cloth and a twine bow to the Etcetera Tag Re-inforcer. I scribbled randomly on the tag with a Distress Embossing Pen, sprinkled with Ranger Sticky Embossing Powder, heat set and rubbed gold foil on those areas to create a subtle hint of shine.
To finish I inked the sentiment from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Tiny Text with Versamark ink, stamped on to a scrap of Idea-ology Black Classic KraftStock, sprinkled with Ranger Superfine White Embossing Powder, heat set, trimmed and fixed to the tag with 3D foam pads.

I'll be back soon to share my last YouTuber Live Chapter 3 project, in the meantime, have fun with whatever you are creating and remember to join the YouTube Live party tomorrow over at Tim and Mario's place for the launch of the new Distress colour - 9am PT, 12pm ET and 5pm if you're in the UK, woohoo, see you there.
Hugs Kath xxx
