Simon Says - Art Journal

Hi Everyone...welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. Thank you for joining us for last week's challenge and we hope you can join us this week too because

and the theme for this week is...
ART JOURNAL
I created a nature-themed page in my Dylusions Small Creative Journal inspired by the chubby sparrows who visit my garden using Tim Holtz/Sizzix Bird + Egg Colorize Thinlits, Stampers Anonymous Splotches Mini Layering Stencil, Faded Type, Craze and Planks and an old favourite, Worn Text for the page title.

I began by applying Old Paper Distress Paint to the journal pages with a wet wipe to create a soft wash effect. I added torn strips of Idea-ology Entomology Collage Paper fixed in place with Distress Collage Medium and once dry, added another layer of Old Paper Distress Paint. I picked up Frayed Burlap Distress Paint with a piece of scrunched up kitchen towel and pounced randomly over the page.
I applied Rusty Hinge Distress Paint through the Splotches Mini Layering Stencil from set 9 using a mini round blending tool.
I inked one of the images from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Faded Type with Salvaged Patina Distress Archival and the craze background from Craze and Planks with Ground Espresso Distress Archival and stamped randomly over the background.  I applied a light layer of White Gesso over the background with a palette knife to soften the colours and wiped back some of the gesso from the stencilled area.
I coloured A2 panels of Distress Watercolor card with Antique Linen, Frayed Burlap, Vintage Photo and Black Soot Distress Spray Stains and Distress Oxide Sprays, fixed Sizzix Adhesive Sheets on the back and die-cut using Tim Holtz/Sizzix Bird + Egg Colorize Thinlits.

I fixed small pieces of moss to the bottom of the pages using Distress Collage Medium and added the bird and eggs
Stamping on an art journal page can be a little tricky, so I inked the letters from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Worn Text with Ground Espresso and Vintage Photo Distress Archival ink and stamped on to a strip of Idea-ology Collage Paper. I drew around the letters with a wet paintbrush, teased the collage paper apart with my fingers and fixed to the page using Distress Collage Medium. I added Idea-ology Small Talk stickers and scribbled around the edge of the stickers with a black marker pen.
To finish I added splatters of Ground Espresso Distress Paint

Simon Says - I Will Keep You In My Thoughts

Hi my friends, I'm back to share another card using products from Simon Says Good Luck Charm release. You can check out all the products from the release HERE.

I used Simon Says Nested Domed Arches Dies, Pinpoint Starlets Embossing Folder, a sentiment from the CZ Clean Line Stacks stamp set and Simon Says Vellum with Tim Holtz/Sizzix Bloom Colorize Thinlits and Idea-ology Metallic 3 KraftStock to create an A2 dome shaped card.

I began by creating a dome shaped card by fixing the largest die from Simon Says Nested Domed Arches on to a card blank, making sure that the cutting line on the left of the die was just outside the fold of the card.
I opened the card blank and die-cut the aperture using the 2nd and 3rd largest dies from the set
I die-cut Simon Says Vellum with the 2nd largest die, stamped the sentiment from CZ Clean Line Stacks, inked with Versamark ink, sprinkled with Simon Says Antique Gold Embossing Powder, heat set and fixed the vellum inside the card.
I die-cut the 2nd and 3rd largest dies from Tim Holtz/Ideaology Metallic 3 KraftStock, embossed using Simon Says Pinpoint Starlets Embossing Folder and fixed on the front of the card.
I fixed Sizzix Adhesive sheets on to scraps of Distress Watercolor card and Idea-ology Metallic 3 KraftStock, die-cut using Tim Holtz/Sizzix Bloom Colorize Thinlits and assembled.
I fixed the Bloom Colorize to the card using foam adhesive to create dimension.

Enjoy your weekend whatever you have planned, I'll be heading over to Tim and Mario's place tomorrow for the reveal and walk-through of Tim's new Black Switch Plus from Sizzix. Hope to see you there 9am PT 12noon ET 5pm UK and 6pm Europe.

Simon Says - Daffodil Field

Hi my friends, we're more than half way through February and already there are signs in the garden that spring is just around the corner which inspired me to make a quick and easy card using Simon Says Daffodil Field Cling Stamp from the Good Luck Charm release coloured with Tim Holtz/Ranger Ink Distress Reinkers. You can check out all the amazing products from this new release HERE.

I trimmed Distress Watercolor card to 4" x 5.1/2", fixed the panel to my Glass Media Mat with masking tape and stamped the Daffodil Field Cling Stamp image, inked with Simon Says Intense Black ink. I applied a generous wash of water over the panel, added drops of Scattered Straw, Fossilized Amber, Bundled Sage and Dusty Concord Distress Reinkers on to the Glass Media Mat, spritzed with water, dropped the colours on to the panel with a large wet round brush and let the water do it's thing.
I dried the panel, removed the tape and trimmed to leave a small border around the edge. I trimmed Simon Says Reverse Best Friends sentiment strips to create smaller sentiment strips.
I added splatters of white gesso and fixed the sentiment strips in place with foam adhesive strips.
To finish I matted the panel on to panels of Simon Says Bright Yellow and Black card trimmed to be 1/8" larger and fixed to a 4.1/2" x 6" white card blank.
I did say it was quick and easy, didn't I. Have fun with whatever you are making and I'll be back soon to share another project made with products from the release.

Tim Holtz Distress Embossing Glazes

Hi my friends, I'm so excited to have 6 new colours of Embossing Glazes join the Distress Family and I love that they are such bright vivid colours. If you missed Tim's YouTube Live launch, you can watch the replay for inspiring demos from Tim and check out all the amazing projects from the Makers on Tim's Blog HERE or YouTube Channel HERE. The first task, as always, was making some swatches.I created a card using 3 of the new colours - Picked Raspberry, Wild Honey and Twisted Citron with Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Bold Sayings, Roses Mini Layering Stencil from Set 25 and Distress Translucent Grit Paste.

I trimmed Distress Watercolor card to 4.3/4" x 6.3/4", coloured with Gathered Twigs Distress Oxide ink to create a light neutral background and stamped the image from Dearly Departed inked with the same ink.
I stamped the Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Bold Sayings sentiment with Distress Embossing ink, sprinkled Kitsch Flamingo, Wild Honey and Twisted Citron Embossing Glazes randomly over the sentiment, tapped lightly from underneath with my fingers to mix up the colours and heat set.
I trimmed masking paper to fit over the sentiment, applied Distress Translucent Grit Paste through the Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Roses Mini Layering Stencil and carefully removed the masking paper.
I repeated the same process as with the sentiment and set aside until the Grit Paste had dried.
I added additional stamping on the background using an image from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Fragments inked with Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide ink.
I heat set the Embossing Glazes on the Translucent Grit Paste and woohoo, check out the gorgeous nuggety bumpy glass like enamel effect.

I distressed the edges of the panel, inked with Ground Espresso Distress ink, matted on to Distress Kraft HeavyStock trimmed to be 1/8" larger and fixed to a 5" x 7" white card blank.
To finish I added a Tim Holtz/Idea-ology Butterflies Adornment also coloured with Embossing Glazes.
Have fun with whatever you are making
