We've all been struggling with the recent wintry weather not helped along by the inability of our local council to cope with the situation...roads not gritted and pavements an absolute disgrace...do they never think of the old folks who have to walk to the shops to stock up on food and the cost to the NHS if they slip and break their hips. Oh no because the council are held to ransom by a selection of Job's Worths with their "that's not my job" attitude...doing as little as possible and only interested in grabbing the pay cheque at the end of the month.
And did we meet the Master of All Job's Worth on our slippery slidey stroll yesterday...3 guys in a truck emptying the litter bins...Mr Job's Worth jumps out empties the bin while the other two sit in the cosy warmth of the cab..,now in my book this smells of gross mismanagement of manpower but hey these folks have the unions on their side and will be jumping down the council's throat if they dare suggest that they could be better employed making walking safer for the folks who pay their salary. As The Furry Boy and I struggle to keep our feet on the slick glass surface...this moron remarks..."you're having fun aren't you" and as I turned to reply I slipped and landed rather unceremoniously on my bum...nothing hurt just my pride. Did he come to my assistance...of course NOT and you try getting back on your feet on a slippery slidey sea of ice...my absolute hero...The Furry Boy came to the rescue...me holding onto his collar until he pulled me back on my feet. And just in case there are any children reading this blog...I can't possibly print my reply to this smartass but let me assure you he hot footed it back to his truck with his tail between his legs and a rather red face.
What has happened to the "we all pull together" attitude that we have used to have in this country...am I getting old or has the whole place completely gone down the pan.
And now I've got that little rant off my chest...it's good news time...look what arrived in the cubbyhole all thanks to the Furry Boy barging his way to the front of the queue at The Ribbon Girl...yippee the seam binding has landed along with some other goodies....
and you don't think I would forget about all my bloggy buddies do you...I will be sharing some of my Ribbon Girl goodies on Monday...oh yes a very special event coming to a blog near you and a little sneaky peek in the meantime.
Hugs Kath xxx

Bad luck Kath, glad you are ok though. It is annoying the roads & pavements not being treated as they should be - I agree with you it's a false economy. Jx
ReplyDeleteMorning Kath & Buddy i'm glad nothing more than your pride was hurt.I bet the dustman felt like a wee schoolboy when you had finished with him.Hope you are not too sore today.
ReplyDeleteKathleen x

ReplyDeleteI hear from my Mum over there just how bad it's been....she is very lucky with good neighbours though!
I'm glad you weren't hurt Kath.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried wearing ice grippers that you pull on over your shoes - I've got some and they are brilliant to help walking on the icy pavements. I got mine here

ReplyDeleteGlad you weren't hurt in your fall Kath. Unfortunately, I think you're right . . . the country's gone to pot. It seems it's everyone for himself these days . . . no community spirit left . . . I could go on . . . .

Hi Kath. No your not getting old, just someone who is echoing how we all feel. We have all met Mr Job's Worth, well he will get his comeuponce one day.
ReplyDeleteI can hear you now giving him his marching orders, how rude of him to just leave you there, good job Buddy(Lassie) came to your rescue.
Hope you are feeling better now you have had a rant, how I love your little rants.
Big Hugs Carol xx
Buddy to the rescue - well done for getting mum back on her feet, and good on you Kath for giving that numpty a piece of your mindxx
ReplyDeleteKath that is a disgrace. Where are manners these days? I hope you haven't discovered any fresh aches and pains today. I'm sure you were glad the furry boy was so gallant.
ReplyDeleteEdna x
Shocking he didn't try to help you get up, hope you are not too stiff today. I will be so glad when this season is over, I have trouble walking my dogs as they think they are huskies pulling me along. What a great stash I love the spotted and striped buttons!
ReplyDeleteGood on you Bud. You came to the rescue. Pleased you were not injured Kath. Go and enjoy all the new goodies you got. Can't wait to hear what's happening Monday. Have a wonderful weekend with no mishaps. Warm wishes.
ReplyDeleteKath I feel for you & buddy. But believe me when I say there are still a lot of good "souls" out there. I hope there is one lurking around the corner soon xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteHi Kath
ReplyDeleteSorry to read of your slip yesterday and I'm glad you gave the jobs worth a telling off - didn't even bother to help you up -blooming disgusting - and I bet they went back to the yard to drop off the van and then finished for the day................
Hope the rear end isn't showing up any pain today - thank goodness for Buddy to help his mum to her feet - so glad you didn't badly hurt yourself.
Take care
Tina

Sorry to hear about little fall, thank goodness for Buddy!
ReplyDeleteMore and more jobs worths enter the government payroll each day, I used to have to work with them, trying to get some of them to go that extra mile was like trying to get blood form a stone, not all mind you, their was of course good people like me but we were few and far between!
Poor you....and thank goodness for Buddy. It's certainly a sign of the times - very little respect - What the country needs is example from the top, and there's very little evidence of that! I love your rants because they echo mine... Hope you aren't feeling too stiff today. Enjoy your goodies.

Kath I'd have taken their reg number and complained:( I hope you gave him a right nmouthful. I can't imagine him not even helping you to your feet!!!
ReplyDeleteI must reply to this one...I slipped like you did a few months ago when I was coming back from the airport it was raining and there was lots of wet leaves so I fell with the case almost landing on top of me just as a group of youngsters were passing...I couldn't get up as my feet were in a position I don't even want to think of anymore and yes non of them thought of helping me but I shouted out: " Aren't you going to help me out here????" Obviosly it was so loud they picked up me, my case and even helped on the way home - that'll teach them! I guess sometimes they have to be reminded what to do!!! When I was young we knew what to do but these days I guess it isn't quite clear to them!
ReplyDeleteSorry this is a long comment I hope you are ok after that fall!
Hugs,
Cardarian
I'm so glad you gave the jobsworth a piece of your mind - there's a serious lack of manners these days.
ReplyDeleteLove Lynda xxx
Yes, Kath, I fear that the old ways are passing into obscurity....it's the same here. Do as little as possible on your job as you can get away with seems to be the order of the day. So sad. What happened to taking pride in your job and going the extra mile?
ReplyDeleteSo glad that Buddy was with you to help you back up! Sending hugs!
Hi there
ReplyDeleteHope you're okay after your fall.
At one time everyone cleared their own paths and driveways so you had lovely clear paths to walk on but these days they say you can be sued if you clear your path and someone falls on it!!!! How stupid is that, you should be sued if you haven't cleared as people are more likely to fall if it's still covered in snow and ice. Round here our bins weren't emptied thanks to health and safety and the postman didn't come round for 2 days either. Bin men were put onto other jobs of clearing paths in the town apparently - at least that's what they are telling us.
If everyone still cleared their own part of the pavement then the whole of it would be clear and safe to walk on.
I've found that the people who are most likely to help clear the walks are those who don't get paid to do it. I wonder why a paycheck makes people less likely to work.
ReplyDeleteHad to tell you this - just back from Aberdeen & passed a gritter spraying out grit... Outside temp 9degrees C - bless him! Jx
ReplyDeleteOh Kath, so glad you are okay, you're right the whole place has gone to the dogs of late!
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should employ the people who are on Coomunity Service or even better have chain gangs from prisons doing this work if the folk that work for the council aren't willing! Off to email Mike Rumbles our MSP!
Hi Kath, glad you didn't break something. I can't understand that some poeple won't help one in such a situation.
ReplyDeleteGreat ribbon and stuff you have got.
Have a nice weekend
Sinikka:-)
Poor you Kath, good thing Buddy was there to help. And I couldn't agree more about a load of council employees (and not just council employees) and only one working. Another good place to see bone idleness is men working on roads and every time you see them the're sitting in their vans and lorries drinking tea and reading papers. Makes me mad too.
ReplyDeleteI got some lovely goodies from the Ribbon Girl the other day and I'm waiting for some of that seam binding now!
Kat xx
Oh Kath, hope you are not hurt!!! Some People these days are very rude!!! I can say though that on christmas day, hubby got our car well and truly stuck in the snow and a perfect stranger came to our rescue to help push.....on christmas day to, I was so grateful, most would have just ignored our slippy situation!!
ReplyDeleteBuddy is such a good fella, dogs are so clever, they know when we need help.
Be careful.
Hugs
Sarah
Way to go buddy!
ReplyDeleteKath, I'm so glad to hear that you were not injured badly in your fall. Sometimes "things" hurt worse the next day. Give Mr. Buddy an extra belly rub for being there and REMEMBERING to help one in need. As for those men, I would have noted the time of occurance, the location, and maybe even a # on the truck, and then I would have reported them to their supervisor as soon as I had limped home. No, it is not their "job" to help injured pedestrians, ....but it IS THEIR JOB as another human being. It not only reflects badly on them, but on their department as well. Wow, I'm starting to sound just like you, huh? lol Linda S. in NE
ReplyDeleteOh dear.I am so glad you were not hurt. You are right to rant what a moron.Wish i could have seen you put a king size flea in his ear.Hugs to you and cuddles to Buddy, what a star.xx
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, have a great week.
