Never in the month of Sundays...

Hi folks...never in the month of Sunday's will you believe the latest DIY disaster...couldn't make it up if I tried but before I blow a gasket and regale you with the latest rant...it's time to announce the winner of the Craft Stamper Mag Give-Away and it's...
Jacky left me a comment to say that she has just won a Fiskars Fuse in a competition and is mega excited...my little give-away pales into insignifance in comparison and I would suggest she buys a lottery ticket...you never know third time lucky...please get in touch Jacky with your address and I'll pop your magazine in the post tomorrow.
OK...time to make a cuppa...find a comfy seat and hang on to your galluses.  Having run out of gloss paint I decided to do my bit for the environment and buy this...
a new water based paint from Crown to tie in with new EU regulations...the whole environmentally friendly...totally green...the planet is doomed bang shoot...well in a nutshell it's a can of crap...it's the old story of the interfering busybodies at the EU sticking their noses in where they don't belong and this unsuspecting consumer has ended up wasting a whole day trying to paint a door with their awful pot of gloopy glue...after the first coat I was beginning to wonder if I had painted the door at all...was it just a wishful thinking figment of my imagination. Silly me for thinking I would fare better with the second coat...still looking streaky and patchy with almost no shine...it does dry quickly which is probably OK for small areas but on the door it was drying quicker than I could apply it leaving brush marks everywhere...in other words a total "waste of time and money" disaster. I'm not feeling the GREEN love at the moment...in fact I'm PURPLE  with rage and seeing RED and the language is pretty colourful too...time to sand off this rubbish and start over with proper paint from the "never lets me down" Mr Dulux.
My sweet Furry cubbyhole partner has offered to lend a hand...
but how can I tell him that his great big in-built painting tool isn't going to cut the mustard...think cheap paintbrush shedding hairs quicker than you can pick them off the paint and you'll get the idea...nothing else for it but to abandon all thoughts of a lazy coffee and Sunday crosswords day...pull on the big girl knickers and get painting with the "does what it says on the tin" stuff.
I'll see you all tomorrow...that is if the men in white coats haven't arrived to cart me off.
Hugs Kath xxx

  1. Kath...I steer clear of all Crown paints as they are pretty rubbish across the whole range.
I tried this one too and I fully second your opinion of it.
Can't beat a can of Dulux can you?

  4. Hiya Kath, I too have tried this paint to find that, like you say, it is rubbish and not worth trying. I bought it as I have a choccy lab and wanted to avoid the picking hairs off paintwork saga. Finish is disgusting, so like you back to trusty Dulux which never fails to do the job properly. Sue x

  10. Thanks for the warning - husband says you've got your head screwed on with absolutely the right attitude (re EU regs)!
If it says GREEN on the tin - stay clear of it, unless of course it's the colour green.

  11. Oh dear Kath! I'm afraid we've all been there. I've got a big tin of varnish in the garage looking for a home. It was supposed to be matt and clear but as it went on my lovely new wood inside my new summer house it turned it a horrid honey colour. I'm a big fan of eggshell for doors - Dulux of course! X

  13. Hi Kath

I know exactly what you mean. Green, pah!
When I paint I want a strong smell of paint, which lasts at least three days!!
Give me a chemically loaded gloss any day. I can open a window no worries! and yes Crown paints are now rubbish including their emulsion.

    hugs
    Katie
