but when darkness falls I've been getting to grips with this woolly parcel...
I got an e-mail from the lovely Lisa at Sunrise Senior Living asking if I would be willing to take part in a charity knitting project called "KNIT FOR WINTER"...using knitting to raise money for dementia charities because studies have shown that knitting and other simple skills can help dementia patients and even delay memory loss. To knit cold weather items to raise money for charities who support the elderly who struggle with the falling temperatures each year. Well...there but for the grace of God go you and I so I said YES.Now it's years since I knitted anything on the round with 4 four needles...in fact it was in the last century...yes the middle of the 20th century to be precise...it took me a while to get my head round casting on to 3 needles and even longer before I completed my first round but you know me...dog with a bone and all that and just like riding a bike...after a couple of hours I was knitting and purling like a pro and much to my surprise it actually looks like a fingerless mitten...
and for this party animal...Saturday night's excitement will be getting to grips with creating the thumb...
and then...woohoo it will be ONE down and on to the next ONE...I'm thinking I may take up knitting again...it sure has curtailed the night-time bad habit of raiding the biscuit tin.
See you all tomorrow
Hugs Kath xxx
AWESOME work!
ReplyDeleteWell done you and a worthy cause. I never got round to three needle knitting and gave up two needles a long while ago, afraid wrists are very dodgy. You are so right about it helping to stop the munchies thoughx
ReplyDeleteFabulous DT peek Kath.
ReplyDeleteI never did like knitting 'in the round' but have certainly been hitting the needles a fair bit this week. I must learn to take it in reasonable amounts as the old arfa-ritis is complaining this morning. Have fun with the thumb.

Golly Kath, that took me back to the last Century too, when I used to knit socks for my Dad. I bet you manage the thumbs - no problem and your stitches are all so beautifully even! I like that your pattern has a proper thumb and not just a hole like some do. It is such a worthy cause too - well done you for helping out! Hugs, Anne xx
ReplyDeleteGot a bit carried away - I LOVE your sneak peek..... A xx
ReplyDeleteThank you for doing this Kath. I am caretaker for my hubby who has dementia and he is always cold, even in the summer. They will appreciate your mittens and they will really make a difference. Kudos to you and many hugs.
ReplyDeleteShoot! It's great to know all of us are so similar, no matter where we live. Arthur-Ritis, midnight snack raiding, reviving old skills, procrastination, et al. Your can-do spirit is downright infectious. Kath, your blog hits home, sister, and it's the first one I read every day. CRL, Florida xoxox
