and the theme for this week is...
IT'S A FRAME UP
I decided it was time to look out my art journal again and have some "off the wall" fun with Distress Oxide inks to create a Rogues Gallery page featuring some of my favourite Hipster characters.
I started off by coating the pages with a layer of White Gesso and when it was dry...sanded it back in places using a PaperArtsy Sanding Block. I then smooshed Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink on to my craft mat...spritzed with water and applied over the background with a wet baby wipe. The sanded areas have absorbed more of the Oxide ink creating the uneven washed out look I was hoping for.
I then decided to use my Tim Holtz Grid Blocks as stamps. I inked the first one with Broken China Distress Oxide...spritzed with water and pressed down on to the page...allowing the ink to spread out (if you get any large drops of ink...you can always pick them up with the corner of a paper towel)
and repeated with a smaller block using Walnut Stain. This is not precise stamping...each impression will be different depending on how much ink...water and pressure you apply but was just the effect I wanted.
I then applied Broken China Distress Oxide through the Grid Dots Stencil on the Broken China areas...
added Alphabet letters with Walnut Stain...
and stamped Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Ledger Script with Walnut Stain Distress Oxide over the Walnut Stain areas...
I love how crisp and detailed the stamping is with Distress Oxides...
I then stamped some of the words from the stamp set with Carnation Red Archival randomly over the background. And I'll let you into a little secret...when I first got this stamp set...I had to google some of the words because I had no idea what they meant...wrong generation and not as HIP as I thought...
I die cut Stitched Rectangles from Idea-ology Metallic Kraft Stock...smeared them with Ground Espresso Distress Paint....rubbed it back with a soft cloth and then sanded...I cut pieces of Distress Watercolor Card to be slightly smaller than the frames...coloured with Distress Oxide inks and stamped with Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Scribbles background stamp inked with Walut Stain Distress Oxide.
I stamped the Hipster images on to Distress Watercolor card and coloured with Distress Oxide re-inkers using Ranger's Detailer Water Brush but decided not to use the Ostrich and filed her away for another day...
I die cut the Hipster images using the matching Sizzix Framelits and oops...sorry Tim but I think that Small Talk Sticker should read "you are never TOO old"...
I used the Type Lower Foam Stamp Set with Candied Apple Distress Paint to stamp on to Plain Tissue Wrap and the left over frame intended for Miss Ostrich...
added Idea-ology Label Letters and a Hinge Clip and before you all berate me for my lack of punctation...the missing apostrophe has now been added using a Black Fineliner Pen...
I fixed the Tissue Wrap letters down with Collage Medium Matte...doodled around the edges with the liner pen and added sections of Idea-ology Film Strip Ribbon...
and Idea-ology Adornment Stars coloured with Candied Apple Distress Paint...
and check out this cool dude with his Red Designer specs die cut from Idea-ology Kraft Stock Classic...
