Goodbye Sweet Friend...

Hi my friends, this week I had to make the heartbreaking decision that every pet owner dreads and say goodbye to my Furry Hooligan. Over the last few months old age has been rapidly catching up with him and he was struggling at times with everyday life. But when a sore inflamed eye didn’t respond to treatment and large lumps appeared on his head and neck, I knew the time had come for me to let him go. I couldn’t put him through the trauma of surgery followed probably by a course of aggressive chemotherapy, which may have given him, at best, a few more months of life. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do but I know, in my heart, it was the right thing to do for my best friend and faithful cubbyhole companion. I will miss him more than words can ever say and the cubbyhole will never be the same without him. In his last few days, he seemed to lose his enthusiasm for life but not for food I hasten to add and after tucking into his breakfast, he did what he has done every day since he was a puppy, he clocked in at the cubbyhole, lay down on his favourite rug ready for a day of supervising, snoozing and snoring. He was a larger than life character, a chance his luck at every opportunity cheeky chappie and a very naughty hooligan on occasions but the gentlest sweetest soul at the same time and I will treasure forever all the precious memories of the happy times we spent together.

 Farewell Buddy
my beautiful boy, you will live on in my heart always xxx

  8. Oh, Kath, I really didn't want to open your post as I knew what it would contain. I've grown to love Buddy as much as all your faithful blog followers and know just how much he meant to you. He reminds me of my recent addition to the family, a Romanian rescue called Max. He is now just 8 months old and is my own golden furry hooligan, like your Buddy though, he has a gentle soul. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time. You've done the right thing though, he was too wonderful to suffer surgery and chemo with no guarantee of a life without pain. Bless your heart for being strong enough to make the decision that he'd been through enough. I think he will always be in all of our hearts. ai hope the Cubby Hole doesn't feel too empty for you.

  16. These are the toughest days but you will always have Buddy in your heart with all the happy memories. Those of us with loving, caring animal members of our family have had to go through difficult times like these, too. I have a photo beside me now of my Old English Sheepdog, Millie, enjoying the sunshine and grass after a shampoo. Millie has been gone, now over 35 years. My cat, Matisse, keeps me company, now. Tears on my face and hugs going through the internet to you, Kathy.

It is with deepest sorrow to read that Buddy has passed. He was like a family member to a lot of us as well. He will be sorely missed but will live in our hearts as well. Thank you for sharing Buddy with us through the years. There are no words to say to make your loss less painful, but I am truly sorry for you loss. You did what had to be done. May he rest in peace. I lost my heart dog of 14 1/2 years almost a year ago now. I miss that boy every day. We had a good run and just had a blast together. I can speak of Stan now without crying and I smile when I see pictures of him but the pain is still there and always will be, just a little milder.

  52. It is August and I would still like to offer you sympathy on your loss of Buddy. I followed your artwork, and your love for Buddy. Just wanted to say I lost my Gracie girl to kidney disease last year so I know how very hard it it is. Miss her everyday. On a lighter note I have a 10 month old psycho puppy named Lucy. Yes, each one holds that special place in our heart.

  53. Just seen this, Kath, and am struggling to see the keyboard through tears. Buddy was just a couple of years old when I got to know you on the Funky Hand design team. I used to love so much reading your stories about him and your life together. I'm so sorry for your loss. A few months ago now, but he's still just as present in your thoughts, I'm sure.

    Sending you hugs.

  58. Sorry to be so very late in passing on my sincere sympathy on the passing of your wonderful companion Buddy. I haven't been around for a long time, I'm so sorry to read this heart breaking news about your beloved crafty sidekick and hairy hooligan. Buddy held a very special place in a lot of hearts. I enjoyed reading about your days with him and reading the blog posts he cleverly contributed to. You were brave and kind, you did the right thing for him, letting him go, saving from the heart breaking situation of seeing him suffer. I know his beautiful face so well, studying every hair and whisker as I loved creating his portrait for you years ago. He will always have a special place in my heart and will be remembered fondly by me too. Sending love and hugs, from Alexandra xx
