Simon Says - Mixed Media

Hi Everyone...welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. Thank you for joining us for last week's challenge and we hope you can join us this week too because

and the theme for this week is...
MIXED MEDIA
I decorated a Ranger 8" x 8" Alcohol Ink HardCore Art Panel with Alcohol Inks, Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Gothic Tapestry and Eccentric, Idea-ology Eccentric and Specimen Remnant Rubs and Distress Crypt Grit Paste with the Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Crest Mini Layering Stencil from Set 53.

I began by fixing painters tape around the edges of the panel to leave a white border, sprinkled on Blending Solution and drops of Mushroom, Dijon and Purple Alcohol Inks and moved the inks around with the Alcohol Ink Air Blower. I repeated the above process until I was happy with the background.
The problem was, once I had removed the tape, I wasn't happy with the background so I bit the bullet and sprayed the panel liberally with Isopropyl Alcohol, dabbed with kitchen towel until I achieved the softer look I wanted.
I stamped the script stamp from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Gothic Tapestry, inked with Alcohol Lift Ink, randomly over the panel and dabbed with kitchen towel to remove the excess ink, repeated with a clean section of towel until no more ink came off. I stamped the music stamp from the same set, inked with Black Soot Distress Archival.
I stamped the Gothic Tapestry main image on to Idea-ology Plain Collage Paper, inked with Black Soot Distress Archival. Plain Collage Paper has been discontinued and apparently seems to be sold out everywhere but I'm thinking you could also use Dina Wakley Blank Collage Tissue which I've linked below. I haven't actually tried this product but I'm pretty sure it would give you a very similar effect. I painted around the different sections of the image with water and, gently teased the sections apart with my finger and fixed to the panel with Distress Collage Medium. I added Idea-ology Eccentric and Specimen Remnant Rubs.
I applied Distress Crypt Grit Paste through the leaf section of the Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Crest Mini Layering Stencil from Set 53.
I stamped the numbers from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Eccentric, inked with Black Soot Distress Archival and added additional Remnant Rubs to fill in the spaces.

Despite a bit of a bumpy start, I was quite happy with how this turned out. The moral of the story is, if at first you don't succeed, try, try and try again and if necessary, you can always remove the alcohol ink with blending solution or isopropyl alcohol and start over with a "clean slate".

Tim Holtz/Sizzix Spencer Colorize Thinlits

Hi my friends, I'm sharing a Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Small Etcetera Tag I decorated using the Spencer Colorize and Bold Text Halloween Thinlits from Tim Holtz/Sizzix Halloween release and the delicious Distress Mica Stains from Tim's Halloween Ranger release. If you missed the Live Launch, you can catch up and check out the Sizzix Halloween release and amazing projects from the Makers on Tim's YouTube Channel HERE or Tim's Blog HERE. You can also check out the amazing demos, hints and tips from Tim using the new Distress Mica Stains and Distress Mica Crayons from the Ranger Halloween release HERE.

I trimmed Distress Watercolor card to be slightly larger than the Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Small Etcetera Tag, spritzed with Black Soot Distress Spray Stain and Iron Gate Distress Mica Stain. I added splatters of Harvest Moon Distress Mica Stain and dried. I stamped the branch image from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Mr Bones, inked with Black Soot Distress Archival Ink and die-cut the panel using Tim Holtz/Sizzix Bold Text Halloween Thinlits.
I painted the Etcetera Tag with Black Gesso, fixed the panel to the tag using Distress Collage Medium and sanded the edges to remove the excess.  I applied Distress Grit Paste through the Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Focus Layering Stencil and set aside to dry. I spritzed the stencilled sections lightly with Burning Ember Distress Mica Stain and added splatters of Burning Ember, Iron Gate and Wicked Elixir to the background. I dried, added Picket Fence Distress Crayon over the stencilled sections to highlight and fixed pieces of Idea-ology Mummy Cloth in place using Distress Collage Medium.
I die-cut Tim Holtz/Sizzix Funky Floral 3 flowers from Distress Watercolor card spritzed with Wicked Elixir and Burning Ember Distress Mica Stains and added Idea-ology Halloween Confections to the centre of each flower.
I die-cut Tim Holtz/Sizzix Spencer Colorize from a mix of Distress Watercolor card and Idea-ology Neutral KraftStock, assembled and fixed over the Idea-ology Mummy Cloth.
I added an Idea-ology Broomstick

To finish I added Idea-ology Clipping Stickers. I spritzed Burning Ember Distress Mica Stain on to my Glass Media Mat, dipped my finger into the spray and dabbed the colour on to the stickers and also a little around the edges of the top layer of card on Spencer.

Enjoy your weekend whatever you have planned. I've organised some snacks and booked my seat at the YouTube Live Saturday party to launch Idea-ology Halloween over at Tim and Mario's place, 9AM PT, 12PM ET and 5PM in theUK. Hope to see you there.

Tim Holtz/Ranger Halloween release

Hi my friends, I'm sharing a fun spooky card I made using products from Tim Holtz/Ranger Halloween release - Distress Black Woodgrain cardstock, Distress Grit Paste Crypt and Distress Mica Stains along with Tim Holtz/Sizzix Pumpkin Duo Colorize and Bold Text Halloween Thinlits. If you missed the Live, you can catch up over on Tim's YouTube Channel HERE or Tim's Blog HERE.

I began by trimming the Distress Black Woodgrain cardstock to 4" x 5.1/4" and created my own stencil by die-cutting the Bold Text Halloween sentiment from Distress Kraft HeavyStock. I applied Distress Grit Paste Crypt through the stencil and set aside to dry. Distress Kraft HeavyStock is a good weight and will stand up to using with the paste so I cleaned the stencil panel off and will store with the Bold Text Halloween Thinlits to use again.I sprayed panels of Distress Watercolor card with Wicked Elixir and Burning Ember Distress Mica Stainsdie-cut using Tim Holtz/Sizzix Pumpkin Duo Colorize Thinlits and assembled following the indent marks left by the dies on the cardstock.I added splatters of Wicked Elixir and Burning Ember Distress Mica Stains on the background and fixed Idea-ology Halloween Design Tape across the bottom of the panel.I fixed the pumpkins in place with Distress Collage Medium Matte and added googly eyes for a fun touch.
I matted the panel on to an A2 white card blank

I'll be back soon to share an Etcetera Tag I made using the adorable Spencer, another addition to the Tim Holtz/Sizzix Collection. Have fun with whatever you are creating

Tim Holtz/Ranger - Halloween Distress Mica Crayons

Hi my friends, I'm back to share a card made using some of the new colours of Halloween Distress Mica Crayons from Tim Holtz and Ranger. If you missed the YouTube Live launch, you can catch up with the Live on Tim's YouTube Channel HERE or Tim's Blog HERE. But before I get creative, I always take time out to create the all important colour swatches.

I began by applying a coat of Distress Collage Medium on to a panel of A2 Distress Watercolor card. I scribbled Iron Gate, Burned Ember, Decayed and Wicked Elixir Distress Mica Crayons on to the background and smoothed out and blended the colours with my fingers.
I placed the Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Linked Circles Layering Stencil on the panel and used a slightly damp cloth to dab through the stencil randomly to remove colour.
I spritzed Burning Ember Distress Mica Stain on to my Glass Media Mat, tapped the stencil into the stain, laid on to the background and used a cloth to dab over the stencil to transfer the stain.
I stamped the moth from Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Specimen and the script from Dearly Departed, inked with Black Soot Distress Archival.
I trimmed the panel to 4" x 5.1/4", added splatters of Black Soot Distress Paint, applied Black Soot Distress Crayon around the edges, smoothed out with my fingers and added Tim Holtz/Idea-ology Thoughts Label Stickers.
To finish I matted the panel on to Ranger Alcohol Ink Black cardstock, trimmed to be 1/8" larger and fixed to an A2 white card blank.

Have fun with whatever you are making

Simon Says - Fun With Stencils

Hi Everyone...welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. Thank you for joining us for last week's challenge and we hope you can join us this week too because

and the theme for this week is...
FUN WITH STENCILS
I created a card using Tim Holtz/Sizzix Otis Colorize and Bold Text 2 Thinlits on the new Black Two-Tone Woodgrain card spritzed with Distress Halloween Mica Stains to add shimmer. I used the Starry and Dot Fade Mini Layering Stencils with Distress Translucent Grit Paste to add texture to the background.

I trimmed Black Two-Tone Woodgrain card to 4.3/4" x 6.3/4" and die-cut using Tim Holtz/Sizzix Bold Text Thinlits. I spritzed the card with Decayed and Harvest Moon Distress Mica Stains from the Halloween release, I applied Distress Translucent Grit Paste through the Starry Mini Layering Stencil from Set 31, sprinkled with Crackling Campfire and Wilted Violet Distress Embossing Enamels and heat set once the paste had dried. I repeated the process with the Mini Dot Fade Layering Stencil from Set 8 and heat embossed with Simon Says White Detail Embossing Powder.
I matted the card panel on to a 5" x 7" white card blank covered with Simon Says Black cardstock. I die-cut the Otis Colorize Thinlits from Idea-ology Classic KraftStock, assembled using the indent markings left by the dies and spritzed the top layer with Harvest Moon Distress Mica Stain before fixing in place with foam adhesive. I die-cut the stars from scraps of Distress Watercolor card spritzed with Harvest Moon and Burning Embers Distress Mica Stains and added my latest addiction, the gorgeous Idea-ology Halloween Droplets from the new release.
