Simon Says - Red, White and/or Blue

Hi Everyone...welcome to another week on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. Thank you for joining us for last week's challenge and we hope you can join us this week too.

Before we get to this week's challenge, it's time to announce that the annual Kids Vacation Challenge over on Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge is back. It's open to all kids aged 2 to 16 and will run until 6pm EST on 28th July. We want to encourage our kids to get crafty so let them loose to have fun in your crafty space and share their makes with us. You can find all the details on how to enter HERE, with the chance to win one of 3 fabulous specially selected Simon Says Grab Bags.

It's the first Monday of the month when the design team showcase one particular brand/company and this month we are all using fabulous products from Paper Rose. You don't have to use them to join in the challenge but if you have them, we would love to see what you make with them.
We are also welcoming the lovely and very talented Rox aka Red Dirt Crafter as this month's Designer In The Spotlight. If you haven't visited Rox before, pop on over, you are in for a real treat.

The theme for this week is...
RED WHITE AND/OR BLUE
I made a card to wish all my friends in the USA a very happy 4th of July using Uncharted Mariner Distress Oxide Ink and Paint, Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Bubbles, Falling Stars Layering Stencil and Mechanical Element Stencils, Sizzix Shadow Upper Thinlits and balloons fussy cut from Paper Rose Sunny Days patterned paper.

I smooshed the Uncharted Mariner ink pad on to my Glass Media Mat, spritzed generously with water and applied a wash of colour on to an A2 panel of Distress Watercolor card. I dried, spritzed the panel with water and dapped with a cloth to create that water droplet effect. I applied Uncharted Mariner Distress Paint through the Mechanical Element Stencil using a mini round blending tool. I inked Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Bubbles with Uncharted Mariner Distress Oxide ink and holding the stamp in my hands, stamped randomly on the background. I fixed Tim Holtz Design Tape from a retired Christmas set to Distress Watercolor card and die-cut using Tim Holtz/Sizzix Alphanumeric Shadow Upper Thinlits.
I die-cut the letters 3 more times from Distress Watercolor card, stacked to create dimension and fixed to the panel using Distress Collage Medium.
I fussy cut the red balloons from the Paper Rose patterned paper, intensified the colour with Candied Apple Distress Oxide ink, applied with a mini round blending tool and fixed in place with Distress Collage Medium.
I applied Distress Grit Paste through Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous Falling Stars Layering Stencil.
I trimmed the panel to 3.3/4" x 5", matted on to Distress Watercolor card, coloured around the edges with Candied Apple Distress Ink using the direct to paper technique and matted on to an A2 white card blank. To finish I used Eclectic Elements Thread for the bow and balloon strings.
